By Spring - Vol. 2 Ch. 13 - Am I overthinking?

@Tamerlane ah, come on boy, things are going to get WAY more tragic for him than it seems. The foreshadowings are there (Yuri telling him that if classmates know he's associated with a "street slut", he'd be in deep trouble in Ch. 5, him lying to her about his family situation in this chapter). Souta will recieve Asuko March (*)'s levels of bullying, physical violence and gang beating if Yuri's jealousy gets her and tells to everyone that Souta Miura is the boy who not only hangs out with the teen prostitute under Kasuga bridge, but also is the only child of a single mother who does prostitution to provide him with food,. That's gonna show us the darkest things about japanese society, rarely seen in manga and jaoanese media. Don' t forget yandere characters tend to go to extreme lengths to claim their property (as, of Ch. 14, Yuri was about to steal Souta's lips virginity). I know 'tis ain' t a shonen horror story or a raunchy shonen harem, so the yandereness is more subtle, but the actions are too noticeable to not notice. I fear that Yuri, on a desperate attempt, will try and steal Souta's full virginity if her sanity goes down the shitter.

Good thing that our japanese Charlie Bucket is getting uncomfortable around Yuri and realizes she is just enabling his insecurities. That's a good development and shows that he kind of knows what he wants. If only, he needs to be more straightforward, stop avoiding conflict and, if shit gets hardcore, be a lot more selfish.

As for the smut tag, don't let your guards down, people. Maybe it's bc of the mom's job, but Yuri is another pandora box that can be opened when shit hits the fan. Don't forget legal consent age in Japan is between 13 and 18, in Tokyo it's 13 afaik, and authors are from the big city. If mommy goes careless with her job out of need, then it could enter into AIDS territory. Souta would rather be dead if he realizes the darkest secrets about his mom.

(*) : a japanese seinen manga and dorama that depicts the most hardcore japanese bullying.

@comeonnow yeah, a bit contrived the explanation, but chapter was mostly Haru's POV. If the chapter had more than 25 pages, it could've been better explained.

Souta realizes, during a "date" with the yandere classmate, that Haru ain't bad and goes back to the bridge (he lies to Yuri saying he had to go back to his house), him and the blonde reunite again and play around. Things are temporally be better for both of them.

Manga is on a 2nd tankoubon (slated for a july 30th release) celebration related hiatus and will come back on the july 24th Big Comic Superior issue. Expect shit to hit the fan after the hiatus. At least there won't be NTR here.

@azudai96 she has quite a lot of money on her drawer. I can smell her offering our poor MC to run away together when shit starts to hit the fan for both of them.

And that 7777 jackpot on vending machine is like getting Limited SSR unit gacha in YOLO summon. (which I did back then in 1st year of FGO getting Gilgamesh *5 😁)

Think about cosmetic and beauty parlor cost to keep her beauty plus her son's tuition cost. It's not that cheap in Japan.

Let me tell you that Red Light District prostitution cost in Japan is around ¥3k - 10k/service/hour depends on QoS, body type, condition, location. And it doesn't change much even if she works independently. But beauty parlour cost service is around ¥5k-20k / treatment.
And Japanese tuition fee for public school now is around ¥200k - 300k / year excluding other fee like cram school, and transportation cost.

@Lolipop_Candy afaik, Fumi values herself at 15k yen, and it doesn't seem she has many customers (the old fatass from the vegetables store is the only stable one). Add the costs you mentioned (minus public transportation), the amount of debts they have and that explains why are they so poor.

And lol Haru didn't know his situation back then, but i'm sure she was just teasing him because, right after that, she said she would wanted to hang out and feed the stray cats with him, but he jumped into conclusions due to his insecurities and fragile mind and ran away without listening what was she saying after. Yeah, nice development for her and shows that she cares at least.. A little too much to go to the extents of stalking him all the way to his house.

@musicfreak12 it didn't seem she's an independent prostitute, at least for me. She works at a bar (maybe as a cover) and another person introduces the people and makes the arrangements for her (as seen on Ch. 8).

Haru wanted to tell him about that (and other lot of things), but he's too much of an idiot (he even lampshades on the idiot part) and handles her 80 plus 50 yen (Souta just realized, during a "date" with Yuri, half of the truth about Haru, bc he still thinks she's nice bc of the money.). Still got "too much" of a service due to that.

@WhisCalifa69 Fumi works for a bar but she is meeting up with customer outside of the bar, obviously without consent from her boss, which I don't think we have seen, that's why on ch 8 the guy tells her not to to mention anything so he doesn't get in trouble, foreshadowing of her debt and her boss finding out maybe?

This manga really makes think that, most of the time, we people ignore how much money is worth, one dollar can be a candy for us but there is people that eat 3 meals with that... This must be extremely difficult in a society that condemns you for being poor, or worst, in a society that thinks that you're poor because you want to be it... That's why I take always the equality stance, all people must have same opportunities to get outside of poverty, even in complicated situations like Haru is. I hope this manga gets licensed in any understandable language but if not, this may be my very first Japanese manga that I would buy.
