It's a big breach of protocol, but there was no way that press conference would move forward without Meiko addressing the "rumors". That being said, the bigger asshole move by Meiko was "leaking" the news right before the press conference. She's not stupid and she probably understood there was no way for her handlers to set anything else, so she screwed everyone on purpose.

I don't trust this Zainen fellow. I am naturally prejudiced agains tv-producer types... but his upfront way of manipulating Meiko really rings my alarms bells. I hope I am wrong... after all he isn't doing anything yet that the model agency ceo-lady wasn't doing.
On the other hand if he is a creep maybe Aurus can be the one to rescue Meiko and that could shake up their dynamic from rivals to something more? Maybe something with kissing and stuff?

I really love how the author evolved the relationship between our two leads from a one-sided rivalry to a full-blown competition with no holds barred. His previous manga "Maria Childrens" has a meh plot carried by the art, meanwhile the character in this are so good that I sometimes almost gloss over the drawings to get to the next speech bubble.
