Maybe because games are unique experiences each time you play them
Like, even if a game has a linear story, maybe on your first playthrough you got stuck on a boss for a long time but passed it easily the second time- so they end up being different. Can't have that with movies, books, etc.

I don't find any difference, in fact when it comes to nowadays gaming industry they deserve it, they just release unfinished games full of bugs/crashes and expect others to point them out to fix them, it doesn't matter if it's an AAA+ game or indie. And when it comes to greedy developers such as Paradox... it's a must (just check Steam). I splurge a lot in all kinds of culture but videogames are no longer a cultural expression, just a product made to appeal "everyone" with lack of originality. And the remasters/remakes butcher the original game while they make unavailable the old version (such as Commandos 2 or Total War: Rome, but the list is large).

If that's your opinion on games, then boy I have no idea what you're playing. Paper Lily, Outcore, Pleh!, Babbdi, even mobile games like Cats are Liquid, Death Palette, and DATA WING. Yes they're a minority of all games, but the good stuff is always the minority. Stop "splurging" in culture and you might find cultures that aren't designed to splurge on you.

The answer is I mostly stopped playing videogames since the new ones are like a chore. If you simply want entertainment, that's a different thing, in the past I played many genres of videogames but even within the same franchise they stopped being fun or challenging (in terms of skill). If you felt offended because of that... well, it's not my problem.

not to be argumentative, but...

that's like saying bread tastes bad when you've never tried it for years

or rather, you've had a fair share of moldy ones the last time you ate some to come to the conclusion that every bread tastes bad

(this is definitely a bad comparison, I know it, and I hate it)

When friends of mine recommend me titles I try them, but I get bored the same day or after a day or two. I'd like to find games to enjoy, but in recent years I don't find any, I just feel I should be payed to play X or Y. And since it's impossible to keep track of the amount of games that are released everyday anymore... I let others use their time trying them and then I check them without wasting time, it's called being efficient.
Edit: I even checked the titles TGN mentioned and well, I won't critise them, some of them were not unknown to me but I was laughing at some of the screenshots while trying to take them seriously.

r/piracy and fitgirlrepacks are basically where I get all of my stuff, googling stuff is harder lately so I understand, I also use CDRomance, probably the best site for retro stuff

You need to have updated antivirus software before looking for pirated games because many of those sites are packed with viruses and malware. If you're looking for newer games, you can usually find them on torrent sites. Also, before opening any links, you can check them using this tool: Sucuri SiteCheck.

I feel that too. I think because buying video games is more personal and transparent. With movies and such it's very opaque where your money goes (especially with streaming services) and it's not nearly as personal. You're far removed from the people on screen, and only see the names of the people that made it work if you stayed for the credits (shout out to IATSE peeps).

Propaganda really, we are on a forum for manga piracy but Hollywood execs don't care to make you feel guilty for pirating manga, so you don't feel bad about it.

Edit: ah you meant only videogames feeling bad, my bad! Though the same idea stands but it's not from "the you wouldn't pirate a movie" ads and more from like, videogame devs on twitter asking us to not do it.

honestly for me I stopped pirating games the moment I could buy my own. steam has neat features first and foremost and I'm quite active and involved with my profile over there, so being able to showcase my games is a plus.

and I care about achievements a little more than the average gamer I suppose.

it's a pain re-owning Dishonored and then realizing I have to do another ~3 playthroughs for all the achievements, fuck that. shouldn't have pirated stuff that would be tedious to replay, and stealth games can be horrifyingly long.

if you don't care about achievements, at least buy the original if you really like something enough to play 70% of it or more. that's my principle at least. especially if it's indie, which tend to be my kinda games in the first place.
