Is it that odd? It was shown on public tv. Not that hard to imagine a kid sitting in their living room watching it, while their parent looks at it from the kitchen like:

They taste like... Imagine a billiard club, like a bit sifty and full of cig smoke. In that billiard club, there is an ashtray that has been there for so long that it contains fluid due to condensation that has washed out the used cigs inside.

I'm kinda a sucker for Club-Mate, actually. Even though I'm not that familiar with the German culture around it. I just think the flavor is nice.
