I'm spending what leisure time I have playing umamusume pretty derby.
That aside, yesterday I went to the kinoplex to watch "The Phoenician Scheme", personally I found it significantly "better" than the last two movies from Wes, that said, I felt the plot was falling apart by the end but all in all, a good watch.

  • Seeing many friends in one place...
  • All wishing you goodbye
  • As you walk towards your death.
. . .
* Progress saved.

  • ... Well, you made it.
  • Your journey is now over.
  • Was it worth it?
  • ...
  • Let's drop this act, just for this time.
  • Isn't it strange?
  • None of them know...
  • None of them think anything of what happened.
  • Do you think they would go back if they did?
  • . . .
  • keep it a secret between the two of us... alright?
  • welp.
  • Just one room left, huh?
  • Just don't say I didn't warn you.

  • . . .
  • A long time ago, an OUTSIDER fell into the forums.
  • He was badly injured, begging for help.
  • David, the security guard, heard his calls for help and rushed over.
  • Escorting the OUTSIDER to the thread he'd made...
  • He gained the trust of the king and the head of the military.
  • Together, they collaborated and became very close friends.
  • Almost a family.

  • But one day, seemingly out of nowhere...
  • He craved to leave.
  • Hearing legends of being trapped inside these forums and requiring an OUTSIDER'S soul to escape
  • ... He concocted a plan.

  • David was to take his soul, and fight against the REAL WORLD.
  • to claim enough OUTSIDER souls to open the barrier separating the forum from the rest of the internet.

  • . . . David died in his efforts.
  • The weeping king and head of the army, now in disagreement, fought over the next course of action.
  • Disgraced, the general left; for he did not want to kill all outsiders.

  • The King did not want his people to despair.
  • He wanted to avenge the losses.
  • All outsiders who wandered into the forum would be killed on sight.

* The king will save us.

Hardware development cycles are often longer than software ones, the cost reduction due to optimisations are much more visible and tangible as well (any cent per unit, that you can save during development, is multiplied by millions during mass production), the mistakes in hardware are much costlier too (unlike software, which you can update in minutes, some buggy hardware require very expensive recalls, turning a lot of working units into scrap, or downgrading them into much cheaper models), and the moat is smaller - people care mostly about performance/cost for running their software, and not brands or fancy features, and so if you do not invest in expensive and risky new development, invention and research, you will get left behind by the competition.

For GPUs, the need to process a lot of simple stuff in parallel very quickly, means that the individual compute units, have to be much simpler and streamlined by necessity, compared to their CPU analogs. That simplicity however, also means, that you can not compete easily on how the individual units operate (since they are simple, they are also simple to copy and reverse engineer for your competitors).

Imagine not having a PC with GPU in 2025.
