Ahem. Both apples and pears are part of the family Rosacea (Roses) and apples are part of the genus Malus while Pears belong to the genus Pyrus. They are as such, closely related. The Nashi pear is Pyrus pyrifolia. As you may notice, part of the genus Pyrus, not Malus, and as such, pears
