It's not a joke
John America looked at the metric system, laughed in bald eagle, then decided to measure land with football fields, speed with cows per tornado, and weight in cheeseburgers per freedom unit. Now nobody knows how long anything actually is, but goddamn does it sound patriotic. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🎖️

This is true.

Grams are easy - that's how you buy good drugs. (Kilograms are basically meaningless, though a metric ton is pretty close to a long ton.)

Liters are pretty easy - they're just slightly larger quarts (fuck off, UK liquid measures).

Meters are pretty easy - they're just slightly longer yards (not to be confused with The Longest Yard [fuck the remake]). And centimeters are... well, go find a ruler - they're marked on there.

But kilometers have literally nothing similar to them in the American measurement system. It's not quite two-thirds of a mile, but people are bad at thirds. They're about as useful as Smoots.

You may find this mind-breaking, but the reason of using the international unit system is not about how it resembles a different one, but the fact that you simple add/remove zeros from the total amount. Otherwise, we should use palms as I learnt in elementary school because it was used in many more empires.

SI makes a whole lot of sense, which is probably why Americans refuse to use it.

Well the basis for mile, read: feet, was used throughout the ages by different people. That said they didn't account differences in feet sizes, maybe. I wonder if they had a feet expert back then.

Human based measurements are naturally derived. They would be mostly consistent across the population and they're easy to do on the fly.

So why make up new units
