I hate debate competitions/ congress debates. What should be a space to exchange ideas becomes a competition on who can yap the most, in the most unintelligible way. At least, that's how it goes when I went to one.

my middle school used to host debate competitions amongst its students once every couple of years

I didn't participate in any of them, but the one time I watched a debate being held there, holy shit, you have no idea how many logical fallacies people made on both teams

and even more surprising was how a quarter of those fallacies weren't noticed by anyone, whether it be the judges, both team's members, or the audience

hell, there might've been even more that I didn't notice when I was a teenager
