Nope, it's in the DOOM and Quake games. More precisely, all DOOM games, and also Quake 2 and Quake 3 Arena. It works differently between the DOOM games, Quake 2 and Quake 3. Quake 4 don't have it and have instead a black-hole firing weapon.

Unreal Tournament have a mass destruction weapon in the same vein, named the redemptor. Also, UT 2003/2004 have also an ionic pointer for satellite strikes.

Old dub is horrendously cringe, that's what stuck with most people.

Now the industry can hired people in vast range. So a lot of people from the community can Dub anime instead. Community know how characters suppose to sound.

Dub can be quite nice (except that fat Asian guy, what with his deal? I think is name is Pro something)

Ah, the old official TV dubs for animes ! Most of them were a glorious form of sabotage ! Hokuto No Ken in French was glorious, same for City Hunter. I'm pretty sure you had the same in US/UK or any non-french-invaded part of the world.
