I think cats having trouble climbing down is a myth, because for 1 a cat can jump off the roof of a house and be perfectly fine and it's harder, but cats can just climb backwards like descending a latter or upside down if there's enough of a slope.

Nope it's not a myth. There's a service in my city that rescues cats from trees and posts the videos. The tree climber guy explained that squirrels can turn their hind feet completely around to climb down a tree head first. Cats can't do that - they have to go backwards down the tree butt first, and this is a learned skill.

So when the tree climber has brought the cat low enough that they can't hurt themselves, he tries to teach them to go down backwards. A few cats figure it out and climb down the rest of the way on their own, but not many.
