I love ishinomori so much, kinda sad that I've read ryuu no michi first, imagine the shock of reading a caveman story then sci fi stuff

Wow, I didn't know that Ryu's Road, Cave Boy Ryu and Banchou Wakusei were part of a trilogy

This is now updated in full with HQ raw, updated TL, and corrections. Enjoy Ryu in the best possible format, and I'm sorry about the sad state the first volume was in. I appreciate all the comments as well 😊

Edit: Should note the big edit for this volume was, within chapter 8, The Dragon King later being called 'Tyrano' (alternative: Tirano). This was his name in the anime adaptation, and I altered it to that in the parts where he is called as such; he is merely called りゅうの王 prior before later being 竜 (チラノ) の王. Likely Ishinomori's editor suggested that to him last minute, as a tie-in for the TV anime.

The TV anime, which was cut short, ends without any tie-in to Ryu's Road (Ryu's mother is a normal cave woman there). It was also the anisong debut of Ichiro Mizuki, and Lupin regulars Makio Inoue and Goro Naya play Ryu and Kiba respectively.

I thought the twist was going to be that he was homo sapiens and all the tribes he was hanging around were Neanderthals, which is why he was smarter than them (even though Neanderthals would be lighter skinned than homo sapiens at the time the coexisted, but I dont know what the science was on that in the 70s). Wasn't expecting the the reverse The Village/ Brave New World angle. Also hints of Planet of the Apes maybe. No idea what was up with that psychic lizard man.

This is the first manga I've read that predates Hokoto no Ken, and I knew nothing about this author and went into it with no expectations. It was interesting to see the simple Popeye the Sailor Man/Speed Racer level characters hanging out in gorgeously detailed backgrounds. Chapter 3 Page 20 is a standout.

It was a refreshing change of pace after seeing a bunch of OP isekai slop where the MC sleepwalks his way through the plot with no challenge. Ryu is fighting for his life for most of the story. His relationship with Kiba is weird (that he keeps calling out Kiba for some reason) but kind of endearing.

Also, this dude might be actually be cursed. He gets home and it instantly sinks into the sea, poor guy.
