Octopus tentacles have their own brains, so I'm guessing it can use those to split into up to 8 copies.
Then they can "camouflage" the copies into any form.

OK so this makes it sound like Fumiko also has a contract with the octopus and used the heart thing of the contract to copy herself? I mean its possible and I wouldn't put it past Fujimoto but it would still be crazy powerfull stuff.

I can see where you're coming from but if the aging devil can see that he would've been used to seeing that by now so the confusion wouldn't make a lot of sense. I think that copy interpretation as weird as it is would make for a better story and is more interesting. You even have both versions talking to each other and the one convincing the other to sacrifice themselfs.
