How much anime will it take to get to this point? I just can't imagine what this arc would look like animated.
Probably like a decade, MHA S1 came out 9 years ago. IDK if that’s an apt comparison but it’s the first one that came to mind

And CSM isnt exactly getting pushed out every other anime season

This is so bad, even the art seems to be getting worse and this chapter is basically a filler

I hope that when / if this is adapted to anime, they give Denji a really long, drawn out sigh here where he's currently just staring at her. Like, "Again, huh?"

Man, is Denji even a character anymore? I'm seriously asking, because for a while now his most identifiable trait seems to be "does whatever everyone else tells him to". This entire second part has him just stumbling through what is laughably called a plot, seemingly without understanding or agency, he doesn't have a cast of characters to play off of other than Yoru, no allies or friends, Nayuta was just flushed down the toilet for absolutely nothing but a cheap shock panel, Denji is just vaguely floating along, while Yoru does whatever is needed to end the chapter on some wacko twist. Who the fuck even are these characters? Is this entire part written by a chicken? Am I reading a performance art piece? It's honestly fascinating, because I can't recall ever reading a manga where so much is happening over so many chapters, while simultaneously feeling like absolutely nothing of substance or importance is happening, because nothing has weight or consequence to it.

I think its mostly because this is Asa's story now more than Denji's.

One problem is how schizophrenic the plot is where we barely focus on her or Yoru. We are split between them, Denji and a handful of other characters I don't care about. Fakesaw is cool but static at this point, Fami is Kobeni again and I barely remember what the Public service peoples names are after 5 chapters without them because they really arent interesting. Death is cool though I like her.

Nayuta probably died to push back the prophecy so the sisters could not unite as easliy to end the world (I dont fully remember if that is apart of it or not). She was still way more interesting than the majority of characters in the manga and I do feel that it has completely stagnated Denji's growth as a character. That's probably the point Fujimoto wanted to make but its been a lot less fun without her.

This also doesnt help due to how slow the chapters take to come out to build tension. 2 weeks for a chapter kills the momentum for the manga sometimes and I cant say I have been looking forward to reading it for 40+ chapters.

I get where the plot is going and I could care less because I still have fun some chapters. But man is it starting to feel like a slog.

No Yoru, Denji needs a real BOMB of a women.

Reeze comeback any day now!

I feel like the difference to before is he asked for help and she killed the woman he tried to save, she did not kill some random dude. Lets see how he reacts..

Also does anyone else wonder what the rest of the gang is up to? They suddenly formed a team with Lametana, church scapegoat and Kobenis brother and just as suddenly they disappear from the story.

This entire part is just so random, part 1 was wild but atleast it was coherent. There isnt even any real mystery here as Fakemi always clearly was evil

People like to say this is Asas story, but the only reason is it started with her. She has barely been a character either for the longest time.

It sounds like you want to read a more generic shonen and you're frustrated this isn't one. Believe it or not, a confused and overwhelmed teenager is still a character. And agency (whichever youtuber taught you lot this word needs jail time) and understanding is just a roundabout way of saying you want him to be a cookie-cutter shonen protag - a lovable goof with a childhood dream and a surprisingly good plan. I won't even mention you complaining about lack of concequences in a manga where the entire supporting cast was killed off.

Look I would've loved it if Part 2 was Asa's story, but it just isn't. At all.

Ever since the Falling Devil arc (over 70 chapters ago btw), Asa basically lost any part of her character not connected to Denji. I shit you not, there are five times in the past 70 chapters were Asa talks about anything not directly related to Denji. Her character now begins and ends with Denji. She is a side character in his story.

Now there's a discussion to be had on whether or not this is good writing, but I digress.

I swear it's always the exact same line. Whenever someone has a critical opinion on CSM, the fanboys always say "ummm you just want a generic shonen XD"

People are complaining because we've spent forever on Denji wallowing in self pity without anything to show for it. He's still in the exact same place he started Part 2. He's a depressed loser obsessed with sex.

Are we exploring his character in any ways we haven't seen before? No not really. We're just going through the redundant cycle of "Denji suffers -> feels bad for himself -> copes with sex -> learns nothing -> repeat"

I'm sorry dude but saying "muh generic shonen" is not gonna make this criticism go away.

My man, part 2 is just shoddily written. Denji in part 1 had character, an arc, and identifiable motivations. He made connections with his roommates, he played off them, his weirder sides contrasted against Aki, he found something like a true friend in Power, he had a toxic dependency on Makima, there was shit going on with him. What the fuck is Denji doing in part 2? He's just being dragged around, and there's no character or element to ground him and contrast the crazy weirdness, which desensitizes the reader. The only character around is Yoru, who's as random as the rest of the story, and has all but entirely replaced Asa, who used to be the more or less grounded character.

And characters dying doesn't equal consequences. Sure, it does on the surface, because a character died, right? But were they actually characters? Which character's loss was truly felt? Which character was around for long enough to become an integral part of the narrative that is now missing? Even Nayuta just barely. And who else is there? A whole bunch of kooky goons with no relevance who were introduced and discarded so rapidly, they were barely characters to begin with.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing that her character revolves around denji since everything she experiences only denji can really understand. Her dealing with these emotions she has never felt and having Yoru acting as her id is fine for me at least.
