the whole ending of part 1 is a big hMMm. i think it might be hard to enjoy the end when so many loved characters are dead - the author basically counts on you caring about Denji and Makima (i guess their relationship should be the core of the story, but for me it was Denji and the world, all the people he met). i think the writing of Makima’s character is mystifying… mostly she feels like a benevolent sinister mother, but then there’s that one time she took great sadistic pleasure in tormenting Denji (her plan reveal). Denji says she never saw him but that one moment of torment she definitely saw him lol.
i still think it’s odd that Denji liked her after all she did to his friends. but i guess she was central to his evolution even if it was a lie (it’s easier to understand if you view her as a parental figure to him, but the implications of that are creepy). i wonder why she paired him with Power if Power’s blood is that dangerous to her. in the end, Makima had a lot of hubris but we don’t get to enjoy her realizing it that much… that’s why this conclusion doesn’t feel strong to me.
one thing i’m still curious about is how Pochita escaped hell. if he’s Chainsawman and he would kill and consume other devils over there, how did he get to the human world? can he leave whenever he wants, without being killed in hell? he seemed to go through the door quickly but i can’t remember if it was ever explained.
