i want to give you spoiler for LN 2. the reason i didn't share summary LN Volume 1 is because that volume only contains introduction to each heroine and little bit conflict. LN volumes 2 and 3 are better because there will be some spicy drama

New Characters unlocked =

Main Heroine 5: Akeboshi Meina (2nd year high school)

Doumoto Inori → Kasuga Haru’s friend
Sumie Kasumi → MC’s younger sister
Iketeru Hitomi
Satou

★ It starts with a meeting between the main heroines (Amane, Haru, Hakua) + Inori in the student council room to talk about their love rival, Nanao. All the main heroines are going after the same guy: Izumi. During the meeting, they also bring up the issue of Amane getting close to Nanao. In volume 1, Amane had some trouble with Izumi, but thanks to Nanao’s help, Amane is now able to be close to Izumi again and is brave enough to show a bit of her feelings for him by giving him a homemade lunch every day. Volume 2 will focus on Hakua.

★ As usual, Izumi’s classmate Satou invites Izumi to join a group date with girls from Seirin High School. Izumi always gets dragged along because of his handsome face, which is used as “bait” to make the Seirin girls want to join. While they’re talking, Nanao suddenly hugs Izumi from behind. Like always, Nanao comes to Izumi’s classroom and openly shows how huge her love for Izumi is. They’re not dating yet.

★ On that day, Izumi’s school gets a new transfer student again, even though it hasn’t even been a month since Nanao transferred there. This time, the student is someone who has just come back to Japan after living overseas. Her name is Akeboshi Meina. She used to live in America and studied at a university there, and now she’s back in Japan. Meina joins Izumi’s class, and after introducing herself, she walks straight up to Izumi. Izumi wasn’t really paying attention to the self-introduction, but then he suddenly hears the class getting noisy. When he looks up, Meina is already standing right in front of him. Meina tells Izumi that it’s been a long time and that she’s liked him since way back then. Izumi is confused because he has no memory of who Meina is. Meina explains that she’s the fox Izumi once saved.

★ When Meina forces Izumi to walk around the school with her, Izumi asks more details about their “past relationship”. Meina explains that she’s the fox Izumi helped when he was a kid. But of course that’s a lie, because Izumi doesn’t remember ever saving a fox, and as a kid he was actually really scared of animals. Meina’s true identity becomes more and more of a mystery, so Izumi asks his little sister (Kasumi) to help him find out who Meina really is.

★ The three main heroines (Amane, Haru, Hakua) hold another meeting to talk about this transfer student who seems close to Izumi. But while they’re talking, Meina suddenly walks into the student council room. It turns out Meina is actually Hakua’s subordinate, the daughter of the Shiragiku family’s secretary. Meina was ordered by Hakua to win Izumi’s heart and then “hand it over” to Hakua. But Meina refuses Hakua’s order. She says she’s liked Izumi from the start and seriously wants to get his heart for herself. When Meina leaves the student council room, she runs into Nanao. Nanao asks Meina to work together with her to win Izumi’s heart.

★ After finishing his part-time job, Izumi is approached by Meina and Nanao. Nanao is the first to say she wants to go hang out at Izumi’s place. Of course, Izumi tries to refuse because it doesn’t look good to bring a girl into the room of a guy who lives alone. But Meina joins in, and because of Meina’s pushing, Izumi is forced to let both of them come over to his apartment.

★ Meanwhile, Hakua is preparing food for Izumi. Hakua managed to find out where Izumi lives, and using her family’s money power, she got the room right next to Izumi’s. Every day, she cooks meals for Izumi. This makes Hakua confident that she’s “leading” among the heroines, since she spends more time with Izumi than the others. When she hears Izumi’s door open, Hakua goes out, planning to visit his room and welcome him home. But then she hears another woman’s voice coming from his room. Because the apartment walls aren’t that thick, Hakua puts her ear to the wall to listen in on what’s going on next door. She hears Meina and Nanao’s voices and totally misunderstands, thinking the three of them are doing something indecent.

★ Hakua rushes to Izumi’s room to stop them, but what she sees is Izumi eating super greasy pizza with Nanao and Meina. There’s a funny double misunderstanding here: Izumi thinks Hakua is mad because he’s eating unhealthy junk food. Hakua is actually mad because Izumi brought girls into his room. It’s really funny: Izumi apologizes because he ate junk food, while Hakua thinks he’s apologizing for bringing women over lol.

★ Hakua runs out of Izumi’s room crying because of the misunderstanding. Meina goes to Hakua’s room to calm her down and explain what really happened. Meina and Hakua’s relationship as servant and master is a secret and must never be found out by Izumi. While in Hakua’s room, we find out Meina had planned from the start to live together with Hakua and already sent her things to Hakua’s room. Meina gives Hakua advice on how to be seen more as “a woman” by Izumi. Her suggestion: Hakua should cosplay and wear a maid outfit.

★ Meina goes back to Izumi’s room, surprising him because now she’s wearing a maid outfit. When Izumi asks where Hakua is, Hakua walks in too—also wearing a maid outfit, but a different style from Meina’s. Hakua’s outfit is more like a sexy and cute cosplay-style maid, while Meina wears a more classic maid uniform. Nanao, seeing both of them dressed as maids, also wants to cosplay as a maid. The four of them end up having a mini cosplay party in Izumi’s room.

★ After the three girls leave Izumi’s room, he gets a call from his little sister about Meina’s true identity.

★ Late at night, when Meina and Nanao are already fast asleep in Hakua’s room, Hakua steps out to get some fresh air on her balcony. By chance, she runs into Izumi, who is also on his balcony. Izumi tells Hakua that he already knows Meina is someone sent by the Shiragiku family. Izumi is disappointed in Hakua for sending someone from the Shiragiku family to get close to him. His tone changes, and it sounds like he’s trying to distance himself from her. The reason Izumi is disappointed in Hakua is because he’s no longer involved with his parents’ company (Sumie Group) and doesn’t want anything to do with business matters anymore. He used to be Hakua’s fiancé; they were engaged to strengthen the bond between the two big companies, Shiragiku and Sumie. So when Hakua sends Meina to get close to Izumi, he sees it as Hakua trying to drag him into the Shiragiku Group again.

★ Hakua cries because she can’t explain that it’s all a misunderstanding. She did everything because she loves Izumi so much. She got the room next to his because she loves him. She cooks for him every day because she loves him. She made Meina approach Izumi because she loves him. But since Hakua doesn’t have the courage to confess her feelings, she can only stay silent and cry alone.

★ The next day, Hakua gives Izumi a lunchbox like usual. That day, Izumi still accepts it, but he tells her that from now on, she doesn’t need to cook for him anymore.

★ The climax happens during the school’s cultural festival. Hakua is chosen as a participant in a “fetch quest” style competition, and she’s up against Nanao. It turns out the contest has already been secretly rigged by Meina. All the slips of paper that were supposed to have random items written on them have been swapped with one phrase: “The person of the opposite sex you like.” Nanao immediately runs to Izumi to bring him to the finish line, but Hakua just freezes. Hakua is the successor of her family’s company, and there’s a chance people from the company are watching the event. If she brings the boy she likes to the finish line, it might affect her future as the company’s heir. But all her doubts disappear when she sees Nanao turning around and smiling at her. Hakua starts running toward Izumi, grabs his arm, and pulls him along. Izumi feels pain from both sides as Nanao and Hakua tug on him, and he begs them to let go. But Hakua refuses and says she won’t let go of his hand. When they finally reach the finish line, Izumi, worried about Hakua’s exhausted condition, gets surprised when Hakua suddenly shouts that she loves Izumi very much. Her love confession echoes across the entire field because the host’s mic happens to be nearby.

★ After that event, Hakua becomes more and more open in showing her feelings for Izumi. She gets clingier like Nanao—hugging him at every chance, and so on.

★ While Meina and Nanao are eating together (they’re giving Hakua some alone time with Izumi), they’re approached by Izumi’s younger sister, Kasumi. Kasumi warns Meina not to interfere in their family’s matters. Kasumi also says she can have Izumi transferred out of his current school if she wants.

Kasumi became the official heir to the family company after she managed to snatch the inheritance rights from Izumi.
There’s still no illustration of Kasumi yet.

Okay so like, honestly the transfer student is the least interesting character to me in this series by a long shot right now. She's just being honest with the MC and kinda clinging to him while not really forcing the issue beyond occasional reminders of how she feels. Meanwhile, he's resistant to her advances, and has made his lack of immediate interest clear, so there's no momentum on her side yet. Like sure, fmc being straightforward is refreshing for us manga readers, but only that. It's not enough on its own to make it interesting. There's no tension, and at least thus far, chemistry has yet to really be established either. I don't know how interested I'd be in reading a series about just the two of them, at least with the current setup.

BUT, I also feel like she's the most important factor making this series work -- her being straightforward is the gas on the fire that pushes the other girls out of their comfort zones and propels them to action. She makes for an amazing foil to them (as well as the MC himself) which serves to make them shine under fire and therefore drives the series' momentum.

I think this is why this series is so entertaining so far; instead of a harem where nothing ever happens because nobody wants to make a move, the characters have a fire lit under them which shakes things up and forces action, which in turn becomes our entertainment and gives us reasons to root for them. Of course, nanao being refreshingly straightforward and winning the small battles by default in the face of such opposition that she's hardly even aware of gives you reasons to root for her, as well. So everyone can still have a horse in the race, thanks to this sort of balancing act her presence enables. She wouldn't be so interesting without them, nor would they without her. This is really demonstrated expertly in chapter 1, where every heroine got their own dedicated title call -- this author understands that each of them is vital in order to make this setup work.

My only fear at that point is that, after a certain point, this can basically only end up turning into a "obvious losing heroines flail in a panic and decide to take action because of unexpected element, but still crash and burn in the end anyway" kinda progression..
A legitimate concern, too many Manga I have seen start well and then devolve into the usual tropes as if the writer was "legally" constrained by them.
For me the heroine's role has to go from someone who beats the others to one who make the guy realise how serious she is and what it means to have someone who cares for you, wake him up.....if he remains impassable then....yeah I am dropping it until is done.

The transfer girl is chaos incarnate, she is completely aware what she is doing and she is enjoying it.

She‘s like this manga’s version of Gold Ship.

I've never read the LN or read the spoilers but I can tell that she's just being playful, which is a very blunt but normal thing to do. She doesn't actually know a lot about the MC to fully, genuinely fall in love but is interested enough to find out more. I would be lying if I said I've never been in a similar spot before.

I would not tolerate being touched like that, agreeing with some of the comments, nor would I want to do that to someone who I'm not sure is comfortable, tho.

I think if the author actually tried to make them realistic characters, either it'll take a bit for Nanase to actually fall for the MC (while putting a fullcourt press on the MC's entire harem roster so she might not win) or she realizes he's not really her type, stays as friends, and watches as the other girls she's riled up into action turn on each other like it's the fucking Hunger Games. If the author doesn't fuck this up, both of those outcomes will be glorious.

If its true that each volume will focus on each heroine, I hope that when its Nanao's turn we find out more about her. I hope that in her own volume, we are shown on why she truly deserves to win this.

From what I noticed, she is taking everything in stride not because she is confident that she will win, but because from her perspective, she has no competition. She sees the girls blushing but none of them clearly stated their intentions. Its like "oh, they aren't trying anything. I guess I can go and flirt with him with no issues". The other heroines act beaten but they're not even telling Nanao off.

In our eyes, everyone is in a race and Nanao's running laps around the rest. In Nanao's eyes, the rest are on the bench groaning while she is running by herself. For Nanao, she is the only one gunning for him while the others are just there twiddling their thumbs. Why would she stop? The others aren't saying anything like "Hey, I like him too." So for her, its all fair game. What Inori said to Tsundere applies to all of them.

Only reason why i think others dislike her is because, as readers, we have insight on what the other girls feels towards the MC. We feel bad about their situation. Remove that and be objective as possible and what you'll see is a girl (Nanao) trying to flirt with the guy she likes...which is pretty normal in romance manga and sometimes, in real life too.

People saying she is harassing or whatever, have never experienced being flirted on by the opposite sex. Nanao trying to flirt with MC isn't harassment. What tsundere in general are doing to their love interests (ie name calling, being violent, shouting, being mean, etc) now that's harassment.

If you think otherwise just because "teehee, i do that because im too shy to say what i feel" then you have a skewed view on how relationships work.

If only Inori also joined the fight as well. Welp looks like next chapter is a meeting of the losing heroine group and how they will join hands to combat the winning heroine.

Thanks for the chapter :D

It seems like there might be a temporary truce to fight against the common enemy. That's definitely a new type of rom-com arc.

Haru has Inori on her side, which I think more than counteracts the tsun debuff: Inori is easily as strategic as Nanao, and her assist potential is crazy. So, she is actually not that far behind in terms of rom-com power. If we were to read this as an actual story instead of rom-com powerscaling though, her personality is still questionable for seemingly no reason.

I'm still team Hakua, because she actually cares about Izumi as more than an object of affection. She has taken steps to actually understand him, which seems to be what Izumi wants in a partner as well. Not to mention that they can relate to each other because they are both heirs of rich families. Nanao has no sense of boundaries, and would probably be arrested for that in real life, especially since Izumi is clearly uncomfortable with her.

As you can probably tell, I can't stand Nanao. I do seriously enjoy her presence as a plot device though: so much chaos and fresh – but completely unrealistic – interactions are now possible! The unrealistic part is besides the point anyways, since this is a rom-com parody.

Okay, I was giving the transfer student the benefit of the doubt, with her forwardness and all... but that thigh pinch? That's more than forward. Something is up with her.

i want to give you spoiler for LN 2. the reason i didn't share summary LN Volume 1 is because that volume only contains introduction to each heroine and little bit conflict. LN volumes 2 and 3 are better because there will be some spicy drama

As a slightly older guy, this series, and Nanao's dynamic in particular, is a breath of fresh air. I have definitely been team Nanao from the beginning, but that can change depending on whether the other girls get good character development as the story progresses.

Admittedly, Nanao is a bit too forward in recent chapters, and this could be a bit off-putting for the target audience (young Japanese people, especially boys), but if this were in a western dating setting, girls escalating faster like this is more common, and Izumi, being less comfortable with this speed, needs to gently signal for her to slow down (which is obviously not going to happen given his inexperience). If Nanao picks up on this on her own and slows down, that would be even better, but I suspect the mangaka is going to continue with her aggressive advances for comedy and to force the situation to progress.

That said, as long as Izumi makes sure Nanao does not have ulterior motives and vets her character, Nanao's courage (she knows what she wants and goes after it, which none of the others have), willingness to put in effort (which only Hakua really has shown so far), and much more effective communication (which none of the others have) is so much better for a successful relationship than all the other heroines at this time.

People saying she is harassing or whatever, have never experienced being flirted on by the opposite sex. Nanao trying to flirt with MC isn't harassment. What tsundere in general are doing to their love interests (ie name calling, being violent, shouting, being mean, etc) now that's harassment. If you think otherwise just because "teehee, i do that because im too shy to say what i feel" have a skewed view on how relationships work.
Amen to that 💯. I suspect that deep down, for most of the people here, the issue is not the action she is doing, but that she is moving too fast for him, and the idea that this is "without his consent". The problem is that although we, as the reader, can see Izumi's inner thoughts, Nanao cannot. Izumi should normally either move away, say he is uncomfortable, or do something to signal to her that he is not fine with this right now.

My hope for this story is that the mangaka (and the LN author) will develop the other girls so that this competition is not so lopsided. Ideally, Izumi should also grow, otherwise a long term relationship with Nanao will just result in her walking all over him. But perhaps that's too much to ask from high schoolers?

In a real relationship is the code word here, I myself don't ever use the 'But that would be awful/amazing irl' for manga, for me how the character is executed and how entertaining they are is way more important than being realistic or the better choice, not that I dislike Nanase btw but the logic of her being straightforward doesn't really give that many points for me and when a character is 'flawless' it's just less appealing and have less room for growth compared to the other that are purposely flawed because of its troupes.

Having said that pretty sure people like me are the minority and most are going to prefer the 'optimal' choice like Nanase and hate characters that are Tsunderes or hide their feelings.
I mean, I like the 3 of them and I also do like Tsunderes, yet I do kinda feel like I want to root for Nanase, take it as a preemptive choice based on whatever missing background comes from the strap.

My reason is simply that I feel like her love towards MC is one that "yearns to give" while the other 3's love is one that "yearns to receive", there's nothing inherently wrong in either of them but makes me pretty curious about that strap's background and I also feel like ultimately she's the one who'll support MC the best.

Do consider that my only context for this manga is reading these 4 chapters twice, so what I'll say next comes only from what I've perceived as clues regarding MC's feelings and background.

First we know that MC is one that has abandoned any attempt to meet other people's expectations, but somehow the way he said it made it seem like it's something that hurts him, we also know that he's lost his position as the heir, so it might be that he somehow disappointed his father or family and has been disowned. This definitely depends from one person to another but at that stage in life expectations are often what guides your life, something that at the very least gives it some degree of direction, while expectations and exigencies often overlap expectations are not inherently a bad thing. So with that being said I think it's likely that currently MC is feeling pretty lost as to what's the point of his life, he's messing around and having fun, he's helping out people whenever he has the chance, he might be a kind yet playful person or a lost kid looking for what to do with his life that finds some vague sense of meaning from helping.

He's someone without something to look out for, he's someone without any hopes for the future... Or at least that's my current read on the character, he might just be a shallow MC whose entire role in the story is being the straight man and the focus of the girls affection, which would be fine, the gags are pretty fun. It's also possible the story profundices on his character in some other way.

Also another thing I noticed that might or not be related to MC's feelings is that Amane is in a situation likely similar to his before being disowned. The reason he does so much for her might boil down to kindness but's probably born of empathy and some degree of admiration, something like "she's still going even though I've failed/given up".

So going back to the strap (Ch 2), it was pointed out as weird by Nanase, that when she told him that she liked the strap he thanked her, this suggests that either he was involved on it's production or he has some other form of emotional attachment to it. My guess is that, in the time between their meeting and the confession, she found out something about his past that turned her feelings into this straightforward proudly unabashed love that seeks to shower him in affection.

Personally, if I'm right then I'm team Nanase all the way through, nothing gets me more than a character that's "comforting the mournful". It's only preemptive tho, as this is all just my theory at best and a self inflicted delusion at worst.
