Now yes, the character is abrasive, and the relationship at present doesn't seem to be in a good place, but that's a function of Storytelling my dude, a status quo we don't necessarily like is established that the story will change, as to whether the process or the end result are desirable, that's something we can only discover in hindsight.

But if the sum total of your objection is "I hate it when my partner has a child from a previous relationship" then that's just asinine, sometimes life gets messy like that and divorces deserve love too.

Hell, setting the child aside, a LOT of beloved yuri stories involve a bad comphet relationship coming to an end as a direct rebuttal to the "queer relationships can't work" claim that society makes by reminding us that a lot of het relationships implode, especially when a queer person is forced into them.

I was actually really interested in this. Because it's different. And it shows it isn't all rainbows and flowers. Sexual assault, abuse, obsessiveness, etc. These things happen in our world, too. Not just straight people or gay men. As long as something good comes from the story, as long as there can be redemption and a happy ending, this is ok. Because, to some extent, it raises awareness. Which is important. Of course, constant tragedy is not fun, though.
Besides, having fluffy Yuri ALL the time can get dull, so delving into a new avenue and coming up with many different stories from that is essentially the spice needed to be added to old, bland stew.
