I agree, but it's not a twist I'd want to see--as you implied. The vast majority of mangaka are already squeamish when it comes to killing female characters (if not when it comes to killing humans/humanoids in general), but they would turn the world into a cube and slice it with a butter knife before they let a protagonist maim or kill a character that looks like Saran. A girl like Iruenza, however? Fair game, if the mangaka wants to show just how "serious" he can make a story.
