He's actually using his day off to do prseumably unpaid research for a sale at work. I can see why work related suicides are so high in Japan

There are actually quite a few jobs where you need to take your day off doing "unpaid work" for work. (especially if you want to do well)

e.g Teachers needing to make lesson plans for the following week/prepare materials for art class... or in some cases, finishing off a child's unfinished art work for them in kindergarten.

@Nep that is pretty much only salesmen and lawyers that I can think of. Even jobs where you have to take classes or something of the sort are often on paid time or they pay you to go. Unless that varies country to country. Jobs where you are required to go between places not only pay by hour but have to pay mileage if the vehicle is say a semi, flatbed, boxtruck and the like. Shit some places and companies pay for your commute time too and from work though I imagine that is hard to calculate as there are lots of variables.

I was a teacher once. I don't get paid for the time I need spend during my weekends to do all sorts of BS. The ones setting the 'syllabus' say, "Go teach the children how to make planes out of recycle materials with glue."

So i need to dig out like 20 used toilet roll for the bodies of the plane. Find "clean slate" cardboard and cut it to make the wings and other parts. Then make one completed model to use as a example.
I can't remember whether I was supposed to glue everything up for them and let them paint or I had to paint the stuff and let them glue it together. Spent several weeks doing this because I suck at art (Scored 10/100 in my school art exam. Title was "Dream" where I could literally paint anything I want.).

Regardless, not everyone, especially those that need special attention, finished their work so I had to take their work home and finish it up for them.

Do we get paid extra? Of course not. I am pretty sure teachers are not the only victim of stupid "unpaid work hours". (One could argue that signing that job contract meant signing your weekends off for the work they entrust you to do but the pay was shit [comparatively] anyway.)

Whoop whoop! Nice job on getting them raws, I wonder why she's not wearing high heels on her day off. More comfortable to walk from bakery to bakery?

Yeah. Unpaid work sucks. Not limited to Japan though. I think the real problem with the overworking in Japan is partly the "transportation". Some people have to travel from A-> B at ungodly hours in the morning, work, eat, and by the time they reach home its ridiculously late at night.

Then they sleep and repeat until weekends where they are forced to do other things like laundry. if their salary isn't particularly great, they have to add cooking to the list of things they need to do.

These all fall under obligation/compulsory things. The final killer is that as completely sane and normal humans, we all love doing non-obligatory things like going out with friends, watching movies, playing games... (There are sports as well but looking at their city... There aren't that many places for casual physical relaxation unless you count mofu-ing cats in cat cafes as one)

Life would be so much easier if people stop getting jobs 3 cities away. Though I doubt they had much of a choice.

[On an unrelated note, my parents saw the "exorbitant prices" where we pay for "walking someone else's dog for several hours" and said they were crazy 😅

@Nep I've worked in the corporate world and as a teacher, and yeah, there is a lot of unpaid stuff people generally end up having to do for work. Gotta work on that work/life balance thing.
