To those wondering, the magazine this was serialized in ceased publication. This happened after chapter 16 was released but before chapter 17 was released. The author was wrapping up the series anyways, but the publisher wanted to release volume 2 only digitally.
Since the author really wanted a physical version as well, he negotiated to withdraw the publishing deal to self-publish it in both physical and digital formats as a combined volume with all the content.

The only thing I didn't like is that the author released the entire series as a very limited run (500 books) only available on his stand in Comitia. Most of the people that bought the print edition of vol 1 and didn't want a digital edition probably were unable to buy the compilation, and there's no physical edition of vol 2. At least, he should have looked into a print-on-demand service for those who wanted to buy vol 2.
