oh yeah, would have done an amazing job protecting them from the dungeon - death by starvation is super effective.

This is retarded.

"Let's leave my children to live in poverty! That will protect them!"

Fuck off you shit stain.

Such a poor excuse of parent had such a poor excuse for abandoning his children.
The author doesn't understand parenting, abandonment trauma and the pretty obvious difficulties of suddenly being an orphan.
"And I thought you two would be fine."
Right. Another layer of BS just to assuage a guilty conscience, but does nothing to actually redeem the harm he has done.

Next thing he does, he comes back, takes over their lives as if he was a responsible father, and tries to take away the one thing that gives meaning to their lives. In the worst and most dangerous ways possible. He's even lucky that the "explorer's power" doesn't work outside of the dungeons or his whole team would have been wiped the moment they stepped foot in the siblings' home. While pretending it was his own.

This whole chapter reeks of a fail attempt at redemption. Note to the author: killing an evil character while he spews poor excuses for his behavior doesn't redeem him. He might have barely managed to do so when he protected his daughter from the dragon's attack... but he has to waste it all with his BS speech of "I act before I think" and "you would be fine anyway".

(Edit: also, this "you would be fine" excuse is completely contradicted by the way he comes back in, dictating how they should live moving forward. They were good enough to fend for themselves as children so he abandoned them... but now that they have proven it true that they can be independent, he wants to trample all their achievements and motivations in the name of being a responsible father.)

Funny enough, the last chapter goes an additional length to cancel his poor attempt at redemption even more. :D

This chapter is a 0/10 in an otherwise 7/10 series. Some shortcomings, but overall entertaining.

This chapter is infuriating because, somehow, despite all this BS, the children end up sympathizing with him when he doesn't deserve it.

nah, it was handle better in the wn.
First, I'm a little curious as to how this was set in the WN.
Second, whatever the setting in the WN, it doesn't excuse the way the manga implemented it.

The dungeons are dangerous and the investigation isn't finished, but Japanese bureaucracy is getting in the way! I should go to America where I can at least continue to investigate on my own.

My kids?
They are doing great in school, and seem to be holding up well after there mother's death; they don't need me, their only living relative, in their life anymore.

I should bring them with me?
In my impulsiveness I forgot and left already. Tee-hee!

I should tell them about why I left, go back and get them, keep up communication, visit, send support from abroad, ect?
Huh, never thought about that even once. I'm sure they are fine w/o any income, allowance, or resemblance of support. No reason to for a caring and loving father to worry or check up on them.

What I am doing is important to me for my kids future.
My kids mean the world to me, which is why I ghosted them years ago, and recently bragged about not having anyone I cared about a few chapters ago.

BTW, I'm going to send my best party members to spy on help you. Then I'm going to skim their reports, cherry pick the info, and then impose all my prejudice onto you one sidedly, and stick w/ it, despite my own observation. Because I am a loving caring father?

Also your dump of a house is now valuable to me because it has a dungeon. It's mine now; always has been. You signing the lease in your name is purely coincidental, and irrelevant. My word means nothing to me, and your eviction is tomorrow. Have fun living on the streets.

Nothing this guy has said resolves him of what he has done, or what he is doing. He is literally using his kids as an excuse to justify his actions against his kids,... TO HIS KIDS. But his own actions and words contradict themselves constantly. He clearly doesn't give a rats ass about them, never has. But because he is their biological father, he somehow knows what is best for them, despite how little he has interacted with them since he ghosted them years ago.

"Explain things to my children? Make sure they are set up with a place to live? Send them money to live, because they are children? No, the best way is to make sure that they can't do anything like normal children, keep them having to scratch a living and miss out on school, and run away to America where I can play as the big party leader and have fun in a dungeon.

I'm protecting them by not protecting them!"

In case anyone forgot, a few chapters back this father of the year was literally denying his children existence, which was the whole catalyst for the current arc.

What a bastard. You can at least set them up with friends or family, not just fucking bail out and 'protect them' from threats that aren't around yet. The biggest threat is not being protected by an adult at that age

Justify all he want but what he did is straight up child abandonment. The kids are basically homeless.

There's so many chance that he can bring his son and daughter with him to America but he didn't.

The author not giving the father more time to develop into proper story is just lazy. Since he is not the face of his own corp, he could easily join his 2 girls and have 5 man party raid and develop story from there.

Heck, push that the mother join him in his raid and died at dragon too so he keep finding ways on how to defeat the dragon until he stumble upon the monument.

In less than 5 chapter he get redemption arc? That's just bull.

It was fun reading until this chapter. He can wax poetically about how it was to "protect" them but he still abandoned them penniless and homeless and denied their existence so he doesn't get to go out like that. The kids should have responded with "Go fuck yourself"

Worst part is that this could have worked about ok had the author made the father amnesiac. Or given him some kind of credible excuse.

Imagine for example: he went through a dungeon cataclysm, got a serious head injury that made him lose his memories, got shipped to the US for treatment and built a new life there. Comes back for some unrelated business, gets identified by his kids, gets his memories back (some at least) and clumsily tries to become the responsible father he meant to be all along.

This wouldn't be perfect nor terribly original, but a lot more acceptable than this evil version of a man who deliberately abandoned two children without any support overnight, then came back years later and attempted to appropriate all of their properties and trample on their achievements so far. Also explicitly denied their existence as basically the first thing he did when he touched ground back in his home country. All the writing inconsistencies and contradictions that go with this setup are inexcusable.

These FORCED ENDINGS suck. I think the author is ending it because he wrote it to see if an anime would be made for it. For such a purpose, the story doesn't need to be too long. Just enough material for one season length anime. And instead of continuing the story, it's better to write a different story in hopes that one could have an anime made for it.
