It was announced the issue after Iron Ghost ended and then began the issue after that.

Considering the quick turn around and the fact that there's to be a second film I imagine it was something which had been in the works for a while and it'd also probably explain IG's early end (as opposed to say, low sales), though that's pure speculation on my part.
