also, you are certainly right about harems. only those could afford it could have multiple wives and in the case of the imperial harems in asian countries, the wives family would sponsor the bride through the bride's dowry and continue to support them with favors so the family could attain honor and rank. women were behind political schemes, but that did mean the harem became more bloody. (Tyrex wouldn't die but blondie will pursue him to hell's end. Tyrex wouldn't be able to persist)
AND the reality of a reverse harem is so that properties and territories don't have to be split, a certain county prefers men for labor but the final outcome, all brothers of a household would marry the same wife so that they won't have to split up assets.
BUT for real, our protagonist just gets a reverse harem
