Seems necromancer is a race now in this story's universe.
I guess it'd be like how "magician" is also considered a non-human race in Touhou lore (e.g. Patchouli, Alice).

Well, when you put it like that...sure, why the hell not?

Why conform to the traditional use of necromancers as a magic class as many fantasy settings often do. This is the author's story, they're the one's with the creative freedom here. Their setting, their rules. If they decide that necromancers are a race monsters in their world whose powers of necromancy can be passed on through their offspring, whose to stop them?

Does it sound dumb? That's up to the reader to decide.
