Same. Kaguya drains 99% of iroha's bank acount at a time when Iroha's insanely stressed and would probably have cracked under the pressure if i had to be honest. This series really is going so fast its a bit hard to be emotionally invested. Is it weird I kinda dislike kaguya? Her absurd spending habits really got brushed under the rug. Along with how the hell she even became famous aside from protagonist plot convenience (And leeching off of iroha endlessly)
It gets recontextualized in a way that subverts the trope really nicely, so just stick with it.The omnipresent man who inevitably shows up saying "I challenge you at this thing and if I win you have to marry me/become my property" is a trope I would love to see relegated to the dustbin of manga & anime history.
It's just the dumbest setup of drama/tension and forever makes them detestable, and more often than not it's just swept under the rug as "just a joke bro" when they lose to the protags, and no one questions how problematic that sort of thing is.
But more importantly I hope she starts to deprogram from how horrific her mom seems to be, sooner than later. Even to a self-proclaimed alien.
This also gets addressed. I would really advise everyone here to go watch the movie; it's a lot slower paced compared to the manga, and it gives a much different vibe. It's also just the superior way of experiencing Kaguya, but that's neither here nor there.Same. I will say that if any story is going to utilize this trope, one based on the legend of Princess Kaguya is pretty suited for it. It also does actually have a function in this story that is actualized rather than swept under the rug, at least in terms of character motivations. The omnipresent man who inevitably shows up saying "I challenge you at this thing and if I win you have to marry me/become my property" is a trope I would love to see relegated to the dustbin of manga & anime history.

the anime went downhill around this point
I did. I know she pays her back. That doesn't really absolve her. If I was already pushed to my wit's end and then I learned my bank account was drained with rent, groceries, whatever coming up, it doesn't really matter if in the future I get that money doubled or anything. In the present day I'd feel so fucked I don't even want to do anything anymore. And it's not like Kaguya was sharing streaming profits, or at least if she was it wasn't high enough because Iroha still has her vacation fully booked with work. This also gets addressed. That one panel made people want a public execution for the authorSo this is the infamous chapter huh?
Watch the movie if youre having a hard time getting emotionally invested in the mangaThis series really is going so fast its a bit hard to be emotionally invested. Is it weird I kinda dislike kaguya? Damn, I'm so used to see failed anime adaptation with thriving manga to the point it felt weird that it happened the other way ariundthe manga is basically just a promotional piece for the movie, you're really not getting a great experience reading it on its own. the movie is genuinely incredible and paced much better.
So I did some research and found some evidence on why I keep seeing claims of the mangaka being homophobic cause you can't trust the InternetSlightly suspicious we could have kaguya tell him no, reject his marriage proposal actually I recall a clear rejection but perhaps it wasn't this early but at the end of the match which is cool
