We will let the world know of the democratic nation by force.

Also I don't believe they even held elections.

I believe this does not solve the problem of the food shortage, though.

Can they even be called democratic right now?
All they did so far is what, fixing the public order, establishing the public infrastructure, and recruit some politicians?
Pretty sure even a dictatorship is like that at the beginning.

@Garrett Pretty sure they're talking about looting the kingdom's army's food supplies.

@mage_goo
I don't know, I feel like this would go against all they have done so far.
I mean, the soldiers are just following the orders of a mad king, and since they are trying to get the masses to their side they would probably avoid something as cruel al starving them.

Maybe they want to end the war quickly so that they can arrange food supply as compensation from the dfeated?
Dunno, I guess we'll see.

Still, that Gustave guy is dangerous since he launched that fire attack, so better deal with him first.

@Fuko Nah, those are generic bolt action rifles

@pantser The civil war has just begun, they can't hold elections until after the war, they could but it will bring a lot more problems to deal with

Are their citizens even educated enough to take part of the democratic process? I mean, they are probably going to open schools to teach them but it will take a few years before the next generation is capable of properly involving itself in its country's politics.

Otherwise, they are just creating a democracy filled with ignorant people that will probably get manipulated into electing the first demagogue that comes along as soon as the Seven Heroes go back to their world.

I thought they were a Theocracy at this point?

Also while a bolt action rifle is pretty smart and they make a lot of it out of wood, I'm not sure if they are aluminum or steel rifle barrels.
Steel barrels are good for reducing recoil as it is heavier stuff; however, as these are bolt action rifles meant for soldiers they could be made light for ease of carry. They are also not that long for a war rifle and more like a carbine.
Also... they don't have any rear sights, just the nub on the end. D=?
RIP accuracy beyond 50yrds.

@Fuko If they are M1s (M1 Garand) then they would be a semi-auto rifle, much more complex and bigger, no little bolt handle off the side. I'm just going to guess these were rushed into production and are missing lots of features you'd find developed during industrial rifle production. So they are like lighter, easier to use muskets. Better not see anyone being crack marksmen with these. >_<

Until we see something similar to the Roman "senate" , we can't called them "democratic" nor "republic" just yet.

@Acolytus , they are not, and that's the biggest problem. Forcing democracy to an uneducated population just creates the situation that we see in Africa or South America. If they so smart, they should know this, and that means that the so called democracy will need supervision, but that's not a democratic system anymore. Right now these guys just acting like the idiots at the US.

I'm sorry, I find this manga really refreshing. So many isekai MCs are confronted with terrible systems/conditions in their respective stories (most common one is slavery), things that no first world adult would accept, and just go with it. These kids are at least trying to change the blatent wrongness of their new world.

As for the whole democracy thing, our democracy (the US anyway) started in similar technological circumstances and probably worse literacy rates. Tsukasa also seems like the type to think in the long term, not necessarily democracy tomorrow, but like democracy 10 years from now. This offensive is just the first step in that direction.

They literally launched a jihad, worship a living God, and haven't held a single election... how are they democratic?
