I'm confused, it sounded at the start like they didnt like that fire mage gustave, then when he is shown to have survived and lent to the guy for a military campaign he goes all "wow, we have such good fire mages? What a great guy, he proves our empire is strongest!". Why did they suddenly decide they like the guy based on his magic abilities, when they had known of those abilities all along?

It happens. Especially with long gaps between releases. Isekai are best binge watched/read since you need to have all the world's knowledge to remember important shit. Long gaps almost guarantee you forget it, making the new releases seem much worse because you forgot most of the context and or have lost what interest you had at the time. Isekai's also tend to have really strong first few releases, but then when the setting is established, they quickly run into cliche after cliche because there is not a whole lot you can make different from every other Isekai.

if it is a shonnen Isekai (like the majority are, but sometimes seinen too) then 99% of them all have some form of a guild. MC "invents" modern shit, almost always starting with the water pump / bath and condiments like mayonnaise. MC is either OP or will become OP the instant he really needs to "try harder". Likely a harem of some sort. lets not forget that literally all the nobles except for or especially the royal princess are corrupt/evil. There is some kind of Demon King, but not all demons will be bad and the MC will befriend one. Bet there is a school and a tournament / battle competition our MC will just have to win. And dont get me started on every MC's personal vendetta to find rice and/or aquire other Japanese style foods.

After the 500th Isekai with the same shitty plot points I would defiantly call it Isekai burnout.

@feha Is that guy Gustave? I mean they could have retrieved his corpse and placed a controllable soul in it to turn it into a weapon, but it can also just be another guy who's also a Fire Mage.

@HDMI1 I might be misremembering, but if I remember correctly gustave was the only one capable of performing that spell he showed (at least alone as opposed to a group-ritual). Add to that how he is wearing a mask and cloak to either hide his identity (and there is only one distinguished fire mage who need to hide his identity from that emerald group) or burns from being stuck in a burning building before escaping (or both). All this combines to it being obvious to them too, even before adding us reader's knowledge of tropes.

The content at this point seems bleak now. They're focusing way too much on the seven holy lights and the emerald brigade. Also, each baddie is more annoying than the last. Not to mention this chapter had so much text that it made me want to skim it. It's starting to get a little repetitive. A lot of isekai authors try too hard and this is no exception.

Btw all those deified talks by the citizen is getting annoying. In fact every conversation is getting annoying to me. Either very dumb/repetitive/doesn't make sense or just baddies being all of them.
