I think its more like a "wish granter" vibe minus the twist, it get your most inner desire, one that is ingrained to your core, and manifest it as a skill+

MC is an engineer specializing in mid to long range combat. In the 5 v 1, he used smoke to compensate for his weakness in close range. He's now been surprised jumped in close range with no smoke by the beefiest opponent. He's screwed. And if Amy has control of enough of the guards he's really screwed.

Of course, the author can have him dodge and barely escape if that's what the author wants.

More likely though is that Anna steps in and smashes that guy. She is a close range specialist. However it doesn't look like she has her weapon, which should put her at a disadvantage against beefy grappler guy.

I agree with your analysis, i forgot if this world actually has levels, but mc definitly has skills, he isn’t much for close combat but if he's high level it won’t matter that they jump him

considering this world lvl never really mattered (as in, it never explored in depth so it there just to give game aethestic which a lot of media do) using lvl as power metric system is a bit flawed, especially so when its never stated lvl (in manga atleast) make you noticably stronger and at most some vague dungeon looping for leveling. also to add to the other guy point, when he 1v5 the dumb quintet he is a c rank hunter after not reporting all of his exploit (one of which is clearing orc dungeon) so his supposed rank supposed to be higher despite all that he choose to use smoke bomb instead of just overpowering them with brute strength (if he could, which none of his exploit indicate he could) anyway back to the point some series have number and rank as decoration and this manga is one of them

Yeah makes sense, he is always a sneak attack or far from the fight attacks kind of guy from what we've seen so far
