It's honestly astounding that THAT is the english name we came up with for Tanuki. I mean, just off the top of my head I can name several species of large cats with unique and distinctive names. Lion, Tiger, Cougar, Lynx, Leopard, Jaguar, Cheetah.... but some english speaking asshat finds out about Tanuki and thinks, "Oh, looks like a raccoon, but dog shaped! I'll name it Raccoon Dog!".... BITCH IT HAS A NAME

Tanuki are racoon dogs, not racoons. They're two unrelated animals despite the name and a tiny bit of similarity in terms of facial markings.
Also, 狸 is the kanji for racoon dog; the Japanese name for racoon is araiguma (洗熊/浣熊), completely different from tanuki.

And like tanuki, both the king and the duke are each trying to show off their massive balls to each other.

Yeah, definitely the type to allow ego and pride to take priority over all other things.
