Allen needs to earn merits to marry Anastasia as he promised her father and earning glory and a noble title in the war is a good way to do so, specially when he also doesnt want for the country (and his family and loved ones included) to be razed to the ground so he would have fought anyways in one way or another.

With the war so inminent a decapitation strike is pointless since the enemy will just get a replacement for the officers slain, specially when they have the advantage in numbers

For people hyping war crime. War crimes are most often attacks on civilians and other very obvious barbaric attacks. Not utterly bombing legitimately military targets back to the stone age. No matter how one sided it is. 👍🏼

Not particularly accurate, war crimes can be committed on military targets just as easily as civilians, especially when you consider that just of the things that are illegal on civilians are also illegal on military targets

Even if we move past the lengthy list of disallowed weaponry, the list of things you aren't allowed to do to enemy combatants is equally lengthy. For example, giving no quarter, that is to say wholesale slaughter of an enemy force, is a war crime, as is killing an enemy that has surrendered or rendered incapable of fighting
