Waiting like 6 months between uploads is certainly a choice... And it's not like it's going to drive traffic to the scanlator website because nobody even going to notice they're supposed to go there if new chapters only pop up in half-year batches. Seems like it'd make more sense to just put things on a 1 or 2 week delay like most other scan places that maintain their own site do. That way people that want it now can go to the site and get it early while everyone else gets a slower but still present feed of chapters on here and people on here who aren't trawling for scanlator websites will have more chances to be exposed to the various series.

It's … an issue in a lot of Asian countries, frankly. In Japan, all you get are gossiping and weird looks, but in some countries, the social punishment is even worse. I know nonmarried couples got forced by the people to march naked if they were found to live together in Indonesia, though this has happened less and less in more urbanized areas. In certain parts of the country, like the very islamic Aceh, you could even get public lashing.

As said, Japan is definitely mild on that spectrum. Plenty of other places have it way worse. In fact, my own mom (Vietnamese) judged my siblings and I (born in America) as being immoral and wanted to kick us out of the house for sleeping over with boyfriend/girlfriend, and we had already graduated college by that time.
