Honestly, the only thing keeping this series alive, aside from the sunk-cost fallacy, is the shipping wars. Which shouldn't even exist to begin with, considering the plot of this manga. Romantic foils should exist to keep the narrative engaging, but not to this pseudo-harem slop extent. This manga manages to reach RAG level of shit character writing, which could have been easily avoided. This is one of the first times in any manga I've read where I couldn't finish the chapter because it was so excruciating to read. Even when I've dropped a series, I'd at least finish the chapter before never touching it again. It's astounding how the author has the ability to catch lightning in a bottle then turn that energy into a sea of cockroaches. I still think the concept and first few chapters were great, but nothing can salvage it now. Maybe I had too high expectations or this series doesn't suit my taste, but I've come to the point where my sunk cost fallacy is forcing me to dredge through the swamp of drawn out and boring interactions and heavy overuse of boob jokes for a semblance of the good writing I know the author it capable of. I think I understand a bit now how the people who read the entirety of Rent-A-Girlfriend felt but I don't think I could live to see 200 chapters of this.
the blue haired girl from Boy/Girl Friendship is infinitely worse than Himari, but I'll agree she's at least in amongst the worst.I knew himari was going to get more annoying but by every chapter I’m hating her more than I’ve ever hated a female character in a manga/anime.
I keep telling myself I'm gonna drop this one, but for reasons even I can't fathom I'm still here. you should be glad you left before the end of the chapter, it was even more painful than usual :/ I really want to throw something at the author at this point. or at least ask where he hid the original author's body before he stole his identity 😑This is one of the first times in any manga I've read where I couldn't finish the chapter because it was so excruciating to read. "Devolved"? She was always that.Because the NTR arc completely assassinated everyone's character writing except Shise. The Lost Ring arc is genuinely great and was a huge progress for Akane and Saito's character and relationship. I have no idea what came to the author's mind when they made the MC a pushover and the FMC a mega tsundere cuckquean. Even Himari devolved into a home-wrecking manipulative bitch.
It's like the authors have this weird writing kink of incorporating cheap drama for no reason other than to rile up the audience. Or in case of a lot of writers (looking at you DC / Marvel comic writers), they have cuck fetish.
She was always a tsundere, but she is consistent on knowing when Saito was being genuine and reciprocates it in a less-tsun way. The Lost Ring arc is literally the proof that she values Saito as a lover. She was literally crying when she lost her ring because that would mean that she didn't care about Saito at all. It's pretty explicit."Devolved"? She was always that.
Huh, I think you nailed it.It's astounding how the author has the ability to catch lightning in a bottle then turn that energy into a sea of cockroaches.
Honestly after reading the LN there will be a point where things get better (Vol 7 if remember correctly, the manga is in volume 6) but you first need to go through these parts of the story even if it's annoyingHuh, I think you nailed it.
This has a fantastic start and was moving along quite well, and then the author drove it right into a mountain of shit.
This isn't the first time I kept reading/watching something that went to shit because the start was so strong that I was still holding out hope that it would eventually emerge from the shit and return to form.
Nothing ever does, though. Almost like the thing being good in the first place was a freak accident.
I heard that the LN does get better after this. But, man! This part has to be some of the worst in romance, period. I would check out the LN later to read it. God, I hope that the mangaka can keep up the pace in adapting the LN because this is so infuriating to read.Honestly after reading the LN there will be a point where things get better (Vol 7 if remember correctly, the manga is in volume 6) but you first need to go through these parts of the story even if it's annoying
Yes, at least in the Japanese raws the mangaka is adapting volume 7, volume 6 will end on chapter 41 and 42-45 (the lastest chapter) it's volume 7I heard that the LN does get better after this.
