What twist? This went exactly as expected: the usurping prince, unsurprisingly, had done actual work to make sure he will be the next king, no matter what, while the opposition supporting the rightful prince was trusting on everybody keeping their promises and playing a fair game. It things were done correctly, there would have been no voting because the dying king nomimated his successor. But the usurper didn't want to accept it, so it's a foregone conclusion the whole voting thing didn't really matter. This went as linearly as it possibly could have gone.
