Thanks for the chapter! A really nice and satisfying conclusion to the first arc. I'm so glad there's more to come!

The interpretation of the ジレンマ kanji really can't be done at this point. Especially the "ren" part is ambiguous. It ~could~ have something to do with purgatory 煉獄, trial/probation 試練 or something entirely different.
A literary translation was the right choice now, but if it turns out to be a reference to being stuck in purgatory, you could translate it with something along the lines of: "overcoming your (inner) purgatory demons".

Ah, what timing to end up reading this through the random manga button~ This story is a great ride, I love the art and the world and the way these characters lose themselves to moments. <3 I'm excited that there'll be more!

Thank you for the scanlations so far. ^^

@Continuously I too see a parallel to madoka magicka here, actually strong influence of Nietzsches philosophy

“Be careful, lest in casting out your demon you exorcise the best thing in you.”

Not gonna lie i feel like this is kind of sloppily written, a lot of things happen with no foreshadowing, like nike saying that at the end feels really out of place. Also overall the dark pieta probably representing her more negative thoughts is cliche as fuck and doesn't really delve too deep into the actual psyche of the character.

Also Chiaro's just randomly kind of guessing the clock thing is extremely weird, if you just suddenly learnt that you started repeating days why the fuck would you think that there was some sort of limit to it. I mean this is a minor grip because it's understandable to hypothise that there will be something happening when it hits 1200, since that's when the clock goes back to zero. But why would you assume that that is the limit, after all clocks just normally go around in a loop anyway.

I might be wrong about something, maybe it gets explained better over time, but i just think the writing feels bit shitty partially. It's like what some edgy high schooler would write as a story almost. Characters are alright though, apart from the alt pieta which has had like no character developement so far, but the main three are quite nice.

The manga does have potential even after all those shittier moments, I can see that there is a bigger overarching plot, that is actually quite interesting. It's just there's a lot of empty metaphors and useless symbolism that is very loosely connected together, I just hate this kind of writing where everything is seemingly symbolic. Symbolism alone doesnt make something good or deep, it's a trick to disguise the fact that you have nothing actually philosophical to say about the things, just bunch of empty words with no meaning.

Still a solid 7/10 so far, mostly because of the overaching plot, art and the characters.

I really like what some other commenters said, that by embracing the negative emotions she pushed aside (and their embodied form), she was finally able to move forward. Maybe she never wanted the day to end because it was the happiest day of her life, and she was terrified that it would all go downhill from there. So instead she shoved all her doubts and fears away and just tried to make each day as fun as possible, but her subconcious finally caught up with her and reminded her that she couldn't run away from her life forever. And she agreed.

I think the biggest symbolism of the chapter is the moment, while she's embracing the other Pieta, that the sun comes out. It isn't shown to the audience, but for just a brief instant she sees the promise of a brighter day than the one she's accepted as the best possible. The next page it's gone, and she's left gasping in the rain again, brought back down to earth. And maybe it was a mistake to give up this day, maybe she never will have another day as good. But she gambled anyway.

@ShitFaced Hard disagree on "no foreshadowing". Many things are foreshadowed, most of it very subtly. As far as Nike is concerned it's a case of "Why would you think Pieta is the only one who had to go through this supernatural trial." which I'll admit feels lazy.

Also, Chiaro was wrong about the clock. She's explaining her interpretation of the situation as a character rather than the author explaining the plot through a character which you seem to think was the case.

This is not a manga where you can take everything the characters say at face value and everyone might have a different interpretation of what exactly "Dark Pieta" is. From what I can tell, at least on one level, she embodies her world view she gained on her fathers deathbed. "I was so happy to have you, maybe a bit too happy and now I'm paying the price.", making "you must experience sorrow and joy in equal measure" the primary rule of the loop.

From my perspective all Pieta wanted was happiness, it didnt matter to her if she wouldnt move forward in her life, to be happy, even if it meant to subconciously create loop and repeat one day over and over again. But when she oppressed the sorrow and pain (death of her father etc.) it gave birth to her other self which represented it. As per pietas wish to stay only in happiness, the other pieta tried to hold her in her "wished" life. The welling of black paint (representing sorrow) and climbing the building is reaching towards her pain (which was death of her dad). The other pieta lastly tells her she can "send" her back to her wished happy life, but to her surprise the pieta embraces the other pieta (sorrow) and decides to not run away from her anymore. Painting anything on the canvas was the move that was needed to continue in her live
(as mentioned she never bothered to work on it/move with it forward). Sorry for bad england.
Your England is fine.
