I think these kind of laws are FREQUENTLY contradictory!
For example, I live in the United States, and here:
The age of majority, (adulthood), is 18. You can vote in elections, get married, sign a legal contract, etc.
BUT...
There are several states where the age of consent for sex is LOWER than 18, (16 or 17, depending on the state.)
Also, by federal law there are several things you STILL cannot legally do until you are 21, such as purchase or consume alcohol, or purchasing a handgun.
In some states you can't purchase tobacco products until you are 21.
It really is a mess, created by well-meaning politicians who just want to "protect children." The problem is, they can't agree on what a "child" is.
