Seriously though why the fuck can't more full length story protagonists be like this dude? Calm, smart, upfront and serious about his feelings, and locking in that happy ending with a silver tongue. THAT is how so many more protagonists ought to be, instead of the herbivorous wishy-washy cowardly man-children that we get.

@StaK Wishy-washy makes for easy drama. The market for stories about already happy couples is smaller than it is for stories with drama (easy to see in movies as well).

But the biggest problem is that the entire Manga system is so heavily based upon the premise of "never-ending story = win". Nobody wants to set out a story with a progression, when this might mean you end up publishing a shorter story than if you just let it grind on for as long as people are willing to pay for it..

So basically the only way to find heroes like this is if the drama comes from something else. (Like the protagonist is the female being wooed, or it's an adventure with challenges and a final boss or smth.)

(..Or in very short stories. Possibly a volume or so, but still one of the rare birds where the ending is seen and accepted from the start.)
