"Controversial Themes" as a Content Tag

Instead, putting content warnings in the description before the text. Of if you're into invasive methods, a pop-up of sorts to make the readers know if they have sensitive themes. Or properly do descriptions, probably.
+
I've seen some titles and groups that do this, even if it's mild. The only reason i skipped those cursed chapters of Gal Cleaning was because of the translator warning and i remmber in one manwha (i think Lady Baby) the group that translates it put a child abuse warning at the beginning. It really depends if the people managing(?) the title decide to put a warning or not, be it on a specific chapter or the description. Of course, the tags help a little too.

cursed chapters of Gal Cleaning
Those chapters were fucking hilarious. Not because of the subject matter depicted, but because of the execution, dialogue, and community responses. It's a shame the author went off the deep end, as that manga was actually enjoyable when it started, and even a rushed ending due to cancellation would have been better than what we got.

(I want to point out I was tempted to make the gif my profile pic but decided not to because I thought it would be annoying to read)

I'd mention the fact that he still doesn't know how to tie his shoes
Unironically I didn't know how to tie my shoes until 6th grade because of disability I have that gives me poor motor control.

I actually haven't read those chapters yet, even after a year. lol.
Once you get over the initial shock, they're actually kinda tame/dull. Honestly the
gangrape scene from Kimi ni Aisarete Itakatta
was much better executed and still is probably one of the most impactful moments because it involves several characters we care about.

@sterven

Oh god, trigger warnings are so retarded and mostly are used for virtue signaling.

Obviously the difference here is that it wouldn't be put up on the chapters, and it's more practical and less stupid overall. It's more or less a content warning that's used in the tags, that's it.

@Korvalus

I can see the criticism of it being too broad and overreaching, which is why I'm open for other terms for it. Really, I'd want to see it used for manga that have low scores solely because of their explicit themes or content so people who don't want to see them can just block the tag.

Descriptions help, but the tags are more eye-catching. My concept for the tag would be used in place where the sexual violence/gore/smut/etc would be used as a core aspect of the story instead of as a one-off gag or that might appear in one or two chapters in an otherwise normal manga. I'm thinking major plot-points kinda thing, or a reoccurring element of the narrative with dark undertones.

You just want others to experience the same misery you did.
Indeed.
Not my proudest fap tbh.

@Tamerlane
The only question about this post I have is about this:
gangrape scene
What is a "gan grape"??? Is it an exotic breed of grape? If so, I'd very much like to try it, as I find grapes to be very tasty.

All in all, 4.25/10 wall of text. Would not read again.

I didn't bring it up in comparison to your suggestion only that when Richman brought up the word sensitive it reminded me of it.

@bigtiddyoneesan I never know if it's supposed to be one word or two.

But I could go on about how well executed that scene is for hours, as it's legitimately terrifying, tragic, and has all kinds of elements that make into this cocktail of drama.

Also I need you to lower your score by 0.05.

@sterven Fair, but I thought a comparison was inevitable, so I might as well address it to differentiate it.

i have doubts about the tag, but if it were to happen I would go with controversial before explicit. While some may not completely get the tag at first I think it is more accurate then explicit. Your example of Suicide Boy, I would consider it controversial do to the topic and handling I wouldn't consider it explicit. Think of this sentence, "I need you to be CLEAR". The alternative, "I need you to be EXPLICIT" would, for many, have the same basic meaning. The sentence, "I need you to be CONTROVERSIAL" to me does not have the same meaning.

That mango has been on my plan to read list for a while now. Maybe I'll read it before the year ends.

Just to spite you, I'm raising my score to 4.3.

Also, I have a revolutionary idea that I ensure you all I am completely serious about: For each yellow tag a manga has (as well as the tragedy tag), automatically add 0.5 to the score to balance the inevitable lower scores it will receive from users who can't handle serious topics. And just to reiterate, I'm completely serious about this.

Wait, but what if a series has all four yellow tags (i.e. Go Nagai's more explicit works) and a user already gave it a 9 or a 10?
Do the charts need to add '11' and '12' scores as well? Or does it just cap out at 10, leaving the extra points in limbo?
Yes, I know this suggestion is about as serious as a singing bass.

Extra points go towards Solo Leveling, the best mango.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: hell yes.

As a general rule, the more extreme and edgy a manga is, the higher rated it will become. And, coupled with the various yellow tags that I'm sure will be added in the near future, we'll probably be seeing mangos rated 20 and above.

But ecchi can be very wholesome.

How about... A rating for tags? Each tag can be rated so tags with higher score give higher multiplier. I'm vewy sewious.

What an innovative concept! And one with no potential downsides as well! As it stands, this is definitely the most important thing to add in v5, whenever that comes out. The staff members would be fools to not realize the benefits of a rating overhaul such as this. And from there, why not add rating multipliers based on country of origin as well? Or, even better, we round up all the manga from specific countries and put them into a separate subsection of MD. I think that would be a decent conclusive solution to the rating problems that have plagued MD from the shadows for far too long.
