Ok so we as readers know the identity of his SNS friend, but in the context of this manga this kid as an absolute idiot. He's chasing a pipe dream, this is not chivalrous, he just can't tell fiction and reality apart.

You probably will all disagree with me, but this was for the best.

The MC is clearly aware that she is too good for him, and does the only logical thing: be honest with her.
Yes, he could have accepted her feelings and all, but he has the maturity to understand he is basically a disillusioned loser and he need to change before havig a real relationship.
Yes, the part about loving an unreachable actress is stupid, but he himself realized it so it's fine.
And no, their relationship wouldn't go well if he accepted.

In the end, he is aware he is not good enough, and wants to be better. I can understand his feelings, and did the right choice in my eyes.
Going out with your best friend is always a risk if you are not dead serious about it.

Mangas like these are fucking trash. Literally zero romance develoment. I don't even read raws and I can tell you that there will be no romance or sexy times fuck this garbage. Another self cuck beta male MC strikes again.

@kronix I agree with you man, you'd think after years of this shit authors would develop "good" plots and narration...
would gladly pay for good content... not this shit.

@Garrett summed it up the best.
And to add to what others are saying, yes, there is no romance development. But that doesn't entirely matter in this story. The growth of one's self is also important. The MC knew his flaws, and he didn't want to turn out to be a d-bag by dating a girl half-heartedly while yearning for another. True, the girl he likes is a girl that pretty much exists only in his dreams, whereas he could go for someone who is real, genuinely likes him, and confides herself into him. But all of that doesn't matter if he isn't really into her and wants someone else.

He pretty much manned up and was honest. That's what matters. He didn't lie. He was honest. He told her, straight up, and pretty much was willing to cope with the consequences. Despite being a sheepish high school boy, he earned my thumbs up for this.

For real? This was one of the better "responding to a confession" scenarios ive experienced. Both parties communicating their thoughts clearly, and nobody freaks out

Yes, that's nice. Being honest with feelings. I envy.

Okay, NO.
After being this clos to the end, I was really hoping he woud end up with Mao. What irritates me is that there is no justification. Why Nanoka ?
He met the girl twice, he saw her on TV and that's it ? Honestly Thats one thing that I hate when dealing with romance in a manga. Nanoka and Daichi is not an interesting pair. Even with the childhood friend cliché, Mao and Daichi were way more interesting....

No seriously this sucks.
