Btw, I can't say honestly that I wish hapiness for this beta cuck, being in love with someone is a thing, but with a fabricated image is just plain stupid. Guys like this deserve to get NTR-d, or end up alone forever.

It's admittedly pretty silly to be 'in love' with an idol, especially in the context of modern Japan, where they're usually contractually forbidden from having a boyfriend and actively encourage their fans to 'fall in love with them' or whatever. Then again, he's actually met Nanoka in person - and she was naked, and her body was pressed up against him in a hot spring, and she helped him and didn't seem to mind that she was naked with him.

And I don't think it's a bad thing at all for him to reject a girl for whom he doesn't have feelings. He was straightforward about it and gave her a clear no - that's not a bad trait to have -- although I think it would have been reasonable to at least take her on a few dates to see if those feelings developed.

@LysandersTreason Yes being clear and giving a straight answer is a good trait, but he did it mainly because he likes an Idol which is a very stupid reason. She actually liked the childhood friend in a way even if not romantically. It would have been perfectly okay to do what you said: start dating and see if the feelings develop.

Even if he met the person in question it's still an imposibble relationship. Yeah it will work out here because of plot but it was still a stupid choice. He gave up on a potential happy relationship and future for a girl he most likely never meet again. This would be a much more sensible conclusion if he interacted with the idol more during the story, but I guess there was no time to develop that part of the story

Let me correct you here.
He didn't reject her because "he likes an idol", but because he doesn't feel like he deserves Mao.
He realized he is just a man lost in his fantasies, and this will defintely make their relationship crumble really fast. To accept her, he needs to grow.

However by that logic he should also reject Nanoka if she confessed.
On the other hand, Kusomiso is kinda in the same situation, and they can grow out of it together.

I'd keep the eventual outrage for the end. For now, it makes sense to me.

Currently both Route endings will suck either way.
Author could have gone route (MC/ Support FMC dating for a while soon after they find out FMC's real identity causing a stir up in the relationship etc).
Either way sit tight its all gonna be cliche'd weak sauce content from here on out.

Yeah but he knows it's not a real love. He realizes he can't give up an impossible fantasy and that's why he thinks he doesn't deserve her.
It's not a real "I love someone else", like the girl in the next class or something. That's the reason Mao probably understood though, along with a lot of people here.

the more i read this kind of manga the more i hate, cause you know the first girl we see in the manga ( never the childhood friend) is the girl the mc will eventually end up and there is no chance for the others girls (who could actually be a good match for the mc) that kind of pissing me off (always the same pattern)
