Alright, so my final point on the previous chapter seems to have been the most applicable after all. They point blank told the MC that even swimsuits can be powerful equipment, thus appearance should obviously be up to him. He's apparently fine with his armor choices thus far though. Mangaka wants to draw it that way, so the MC's mentality falls perfectly in place despite a possible way out.
