The demon king is more of a magic user with an ogre like strength, than a western interpretation of a demon. The defining trait is having magic that's strong enough to destroy whole cities or countries, not actually using it for that purpose.

He could have sent all of those beasts through the transfer array to the other continent, while at the same time boosting them with magic and turning them into a berserk state. The folks at the other end of the transfer array, waiting for a slave shipment, would have got a nice surprise.
