Enough instinct to process both extremes but not subtle enough to understand things in the middle. It's a very childlike trait. Though I doubt the manga is trying to be more complex than bitch is evil, monk is good.

I guess Ina can sense bad intentions and might just want to protect her mother (unless is the other way around knowing the monk history and stuff). This will be interesting regardless.

I found it odd that the daughter likes the Monk and I continued to be worried for Miyo's family especially with Daija no longer around in a village that is suspicious if not hostile to them. I expect Tokitaro to grow to the size of a wolf by the time Winter ends.

I read this earlier and was thinking.
Maybe the author just thought it would be funny if after when winter ends Daiji comes back to the village to get Miyo and discovers that Ankei because something like a foster father to his daughter.
This is the most probably possibility, but, there's always a but, there's more to Ina being so inexplicably friendly to Ankei.

Wow. From what i understand, Ina is not so different from a wild animal "if you express hostility, fear or uneasiness, they feel it and react". The monk passed the test because after Miyo's request he let his guard down(he is a monk, to some extent they know how to control emotions); i think regarding Miyo's brother/mother, they didn't get bitten even when they stressed her, because she recognizes them by scent(like family), just like Daija does~
