Breaking the taboo...doesn't really feel like breaking the taboo when the author went to such extreme lengths to justify it. It feels more like a technicality at this point.
So the night elves are literally replused at the idea of having sex with sun elves that is advanced racism. And that night elf Vigne would not mind if Jilbagias gave her his first time. If he can have Liliana live longer to help topple the demons he would. Killing her is a mercy.
He always had considered killing her to 'save' her. But he backed out of the idea when he decided to gamble on being able to dominate her and fool the Night Elves. Well, there was also the third option, which was to actually rape her, which definitely would have raised his taboo, but he rejected that idea completely.
The manga isn't deviating, it just has to show it differently because so much of this novel is actually just Jibalgias's thoughts spelled out for the reader.
Just like back when I read the novel version, I am still curious if the author independently came up with the idea of these Night Elves being little murder/torture goblins, or if they took the idea from the Dark Eldar in 40k. The degree of cruelty and obsession with torture is pretty specific, not even Dark "Elves" in the adjacent vanilla Warhammer, or Drow in other popular canon like D&D are quite that extreme.

Well taboo is based on morality, not justification. A person without morality can justify torture, murder, and so on that could actually be beneficial to...someone or other. But it would still be immoral.
The 'moral' choice here is to rescue her even if it costs him his life. It actually may be possible. But it would cost him his revenge, and any hope of stopping the demons. Nobody said it was 'smart'. It is a technicality, but it holds nonetheless.
My heart hurts reading this. There are only a few manga I've read that affected me on an emotional level... Honestly didn't expect this to be one of those.

Interesting that the art style is so cutesy for such a dark series. A realistic art style similar to manga like Berserk, Vinland Saga, What do you wish for with those Murky Eyes etc would have been more suitable IMO.
No one is gonna know anything about his real intentions, to everyone else he will be a literal demon child who raped and killed the Saintess for his own pleasure.
As he is building up taboos, he could modify the demon king's introduction skill reversely. So, if someone knows his name and said it, a similar effect on the demon king's skill will be activated. He will become a demon whose name must not be said.

I mean, it was fairly obvious he would have to kill her to gain a taboo. It's literally the only concession he can make for a former friend in that state. I really hope this series carries to a non-rushed (axed) conclusion. I want to savor the build up to the reckoning.
Honestly, though the end of the chap doesn't seem to be going that way, I feel like this part of the chapter gives them the potential "out" needed. If the dark elves are interested in brainwashing techniques but haven't really started any, he could disguise his interactions with her as under the effects of brainwashing magic.
Not to mention, his demon's taboos can also affect what the saint is able to say, which would make that potentially more believable.
You know this is really a good idea.
The problem is she has been tortured for more than 7 years, even if she lives , with her mind so broken and all the trauma , killing her might be the most merciful way out
