MC's backstory is better explained in the original WN.

MC's 1st life is as a female karate instructor, who dies after being struck by lightning. She reincarnates into her 2nd life as a orphan kid in the slums, who briefly reigns as their leader until she's caught during a random government cleanup of street children. She is assessed to have the powers of a prophet and taken in as a symbol of salvation to the country (there have only been 2 other prophets so far). where she is renamed Zachariah and given a fitting education. She soon grows up to be a wise and respected teacher to the country's prince and other prominent nobles (some of the guys you see are the children/relatives/associates of MC's ex-students). One day, after meeting a student of hers at a tavern, she is struck down by a carriage and dies. Her 3rd life is now as a duke's daughter.

Laws dictate a prophet must never get married, and live a plain, simple and cloistered life. MC is very disappointed and sad at this, since she desires to find true love, live independently as she wishes, and wear nicer dresses.
This is why in her current incarnation as a duke's daughter, she wants to live the free, pampered life she never could get as a prophet, as well as find a good partner this time. This is also why she doesn't want to be robbed of her 2nd chance at freedom by becoming a prophet again.

that was rather convoluted and confusing way to start a series off.

If being a prophet is such a big thing and she had so many big connections, it's funny that she can get causally run over then treated like some roadkill without any fuss.

@Hollow7F Seriously, she looks way too mature to be 10 in a variety of ways due to the art style, from her face to her fashion. At the very least, they should have added some perspective in the beginning by lining her up next to an adult or something. I mean, aside from the fact that she and the other girls at the tea party aren't that well endowed, there's nothing indicating that they are children. What's even worse is when she was being helped into the carriage by her maid(who I assume is an adult) they both looked about the same size, and the maid's head was quite close to the top of the carriage door's rim. Either the maid is also a child and the carriage is tiny as all hell as it's made for kids, or our MC is extremely tall for a 10-year-old. Seems like the artist doesn't know how to properly draw children to make them actually look smaller.

@mismarca humm maybe she was running from something? Or she was in her thoughts? Actually, I saw a documentary and it said that being run over by a carriage was pretty common in the 16th-18th centuries
