That part reads to you like it's his thought as if he was a normal person/fan.

But he's not. He's a mega-otaku whose thought patterns don't follow common logic or human tendency. He'd happily be labeled a hosare-ota and continue on because there is nothing conditional about his actions.

Though everyone knows that. But I think its worth pointing out because his public actions and his internal thoughts are very much in line all the time. He has never deviated from this consistency, he isn't going to now.
Yeah but there's also the thing with his family (from chapter 32): he clearly feels inadequate when he's around them, and Urumin is almost like a lifebuoy or a beacon of light to him, so he's been desperately latching onto her. She isn't the only one keeping him afloat (there's also Kuzutani), but she definitely plays a big part in him not acting and feeling like a complete mess with no reason to live anymore.

To me, the "who am I here for?" felt not like Kimiya beeing angry at Urumin, but like him losing his light and the only thing that made him feel like he mattered to anyone. So I actually think now would be the perfect time for him to deviate from his usual behaviour. And then of course, he's going to come back to her, and they're going to get closer together, and hopefully, he'll be able to form a new and healthier kind of bond with Urumin. But before that, he has to stop seeing her as nothing more than his idol, and start seeing her as a girl. Because if he doesn't, their relationship just won't be able to grow, and nothing is ever going to change. And I think (and hope) this is exactly what we're heading to.

Let's bet, it's either

A.) Prolonged Drama because Urumin and Uruota keep sending mixed signals
B.) Short Drama because the misunderstanding gets cleared up right away
C.) Drama instantly goes away because Urumin accidentally confesses

I'm not convinced. It's more like this is just the reason he likes her when nobody else does. I think you're projecting based on what you want to see and rationalizing after the fact since you've already staked your position that the words are his.

There's no indication in the beach arc that he can't find any purpose without her, only that he admires her for doing what she can't. You also sound like you're mistaking why people support the idols that they do. As if dependency comes from their side. There are parasocial otaku out there sure, loads of them. Does he look like one to you?

Yeah you might be right. Guess we'll have to wait for the next chapters then! (Maybe we're both half-right, and they're both thinking the same words at the same time? That would be neat.)

That's true, I did assume a lot of things. He's probably not as depressed as I made him out to be (but seeing his face at the end of this chapter, I think we're gonna learn more about that very soon).
It's just that chapter 32 dropped some rare snippets of insight on his family life, and I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen that come up more in the comments. I mean his father seems to expect a lot from him and is pretty harsh with him because of that (which to me means Kimiya feels inadequate, or at least not good enough for his father), and his older brother is successful enough to be used as a comparison point by his father, and also to act as a shield to Kimiya against his father (which to me sounds like a great brother, but who makes Kimiya a tiny bit jealous). And if the author took the time to show us all of that, I'd be really surprised if it never came up again in the story.
So I think his reasons for supporting Urumin are a bit more complex than just "admiring her for doing what she can't". Maybe I'm reading too much into it (that wouldn't be my first time haha), and he just wishes he could also try his best all the time even when all odds are stacked against him, just like her. But I still think he has unresolved issues on his own, and is at least partially using his relationship with Urumin as a way to escape his problems. I guess we'll see when the next chapters drop!

You also sound like you're mistaking why people support the idols that they do.
Haha yeah, I must admit, I'm not the most well-versed when it comes to idols and parasocial relationships! xD

There are parasocial otaku out there sure, loads of them. Does he look like one to you?
And no, he doesn't, quite the reverse actually. There's a clear idol-fan distance between Urumin and him, and until they get past that and start seeing the person underneath the role, their relationship won't be able to grow. I mean at the end of the day, it's still a rom-com. The characters have to get closer over time, otherwise there's just no story to tell.

I guess my tl;dr would be: "I think the status quo is going to change very soon, and I'm all for that and looking forward to what's coming next!"

Anyway, sorry for doubling down and taking more of your time, and thank you for this opportunity to talk about this manga we both seem to really like. Have a great day/night/anytime you read that! :)
