I always like the idea Ozu actually died and his "real life appearance" (and not not his book appearances) was at Machio's Masura Shrine, because of how that might be because he's a spirit!

But, as the others have already mentioned, it's shown that Ozu Toshio does survive the Rakshasa's Palm that broke his neck so well before the Kengan tournament. He's shown sitting on a bench after some medical treatment. Danberu takes place around 1 year after Kengan (according to recent chapters), so Ozu is alive and well, it seems.
