I'm more surprised by the strong response people have to others pointing out the obvious. Some go so far as to say it's pedo behavior, I wouldn't go that far. And, the reason I kept reiterating that more than some of the comments here are simply reactionary to the people being outraged, is because at a certain point it's just people effectively trolling that second group. It absolutely muddies discourse and obfuscates how many people are celebrating the story, and celebrating the act, yes--but it's the Internet. People are going to say things purely for the shock value and for the freedom to express opinions in relative anonymity, and at a certain point it becomes most important to decide as an individual what your own moral compass should be. You can't tell others how to think, as you said, but you also can't know if the internal intent from which their words derive. If you know where you stand, then that's the important bit. From there, it's a matter of tuning out the noise in favor of the signal, because after awhile the noise itself is being noise for the sake of Noise.

You're correct--it's obviously not good what is happening in the story thus far. It's also simply a story; retaining your moral compass and recognizing that enjoying fiction is not condoning its mirroring in reality is the hallmark of a competent person, I'd argue.
