Maybe the threshold for falling in love with a man is much lower here than it was in my original world.

You realized that 21 chapters too late, Masato.

Now all you can do is juggle the ladies as everything comes crashing down.

The polygamy thing has been addressed, in that this world's gender disparity is a recent(ish) phenomenon and the nation's government has not caught up to legislating around it. (How, I don't know, because it would have to be more than several generations' worth of time passing for it to get to this point where social ramifications and shifts are present...but it's technically brought up in the series itself.)

The lack of gay women though is baffling and I feel like is just the author not thinking through the reality of their creation.
I know it was addressed earlier, but I just felt like poly stuff would be happening whether or not the government approved. Like guys two-time girls here all the time, in 1:5 land I'd think it would be rampant.

Maybe there can be a yuri spinoff of the same world, where there's some annoying guy in the background but we don't notice because the female MC is too busy speedrunning an all-girl version of 100 Girlfriends

So he does know that he was deluding himself into thinking that this world was the same as his previous.
Wonder how much his character will change now that this mental block is gone. Already the small changes he exhibited this chapter is interesting.

Seriously did not expect this thread to turn out out like this.

All right, for starters, there is no goddamned tracker. Seira is a little yan right now, but believe me, her feelings are genuine. This little yan spike is going to hurt, but also lead to great character development. Of the five girls, she is the most admirable for how hard she tries.

Second, yes, he's naive. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. There are people as naive as he is in our world. Other men as naive as him exist in the 1:5 world, too, born there, raised there, and still believing in the fundamental kindness of women. They end up far more traumatized than Masato when their naivete is shattered. Just because we as readers have omniscient third person perspective does not mean a character acting on his own conclusions is a moron. Naivete is not a crime. Nor is his complacency in being lulled into thinking he would be fine when the world was so similar to his own. He's a genuinely nice man who lacks malice.

Third, there is no reason for there to be more lesbians in this world as a percentage of population than our world. The ratio between the sexes changed, but everything else is consistent with our world to the point Masato is seen as a nice, naive lad. Since study after study has shown that LGT is around 3.5% of the total population in our world, we can estimate it to be lower in this one since there are fewer men. That also means that 1 out of 100 men are gay, which means the 1:5 world is even worse for them than it is for women.

Fourth, polygamy is not accepted legally, but women are pushing for it. We see men in this manga with multiple women, so there are women who will accept an illegally polygamous relationship just to get access to a man. We also see that many of those men are douchebags. Genuinely nice lads like Masato are rare enough to qualified as endangered species protection.

The manga is doing a good job of adapting the light novel, so I recommend folks go read it. Especially since the illustration for this scene at the end of volume 2 is so much better there.

Y'all picking on Masato must have never been dense in a relationship before and missed obvious cues.
It's been established by the manga and even Masato himself that he should have known better.
Not only is he in another world but his landlady gave him a heads up to be mindful in how he interacted with women. And, he had relationships fall apart in his original world specifically because of how he interacted with and treated every girl he encountered in the exact same manner--including the one he was dating at the time.

He's already lived through the consequences of his behavior, and that was in a place where his gender wasn't at a societal premium. He just assumed that he could carry on here without consequences, when anyone with eyeballs and a functioning prefrontal cortex could inspect their surroundings and think "huh, maybe I should pay attention to others and act accordingly", and now he's reaping what he's sown.

Sure he should have known better, but he's pedestrian levels of naive and oblivious. You might be surprised to see what low self esteem can do to a dude.

The readership of this manga has the benefit of looking at the situation from the outside. It's not implausible for Masato to only have realized now.
