A birth rate of 1 in 5 means that for every 50K people born, only 2K of them will be men. Even in a picturesque world where men never die during birth, they're not infertile and all the other problems that would make this bad... you're not looking at much bigger numbers.

And that turned out to be a wasted effort.

The pandering in this one is just so boorish, oafish and glaringly obvious, that it goes all the way around and comes from the other end, as insulting.

How can you go to an engineering uni and not realize there's a huge difference between a skewed ratio at a local university and a skewed ratio in the whole world? Try locking everybody into that university for life and you'll see the chaos that ensues.

Also, a global gender ratio would be much like minority discrimination/rights such as asians or African Americans, except 20% AND it randomly re-occurs in every family in the world would mean that families in economic or political power would still have support that minority’s rights to improve over time.

You can look at discrimination towards left-handed people as a rough example. Used to be lynching for devilry, slowly progresses towards equality and understanding over a few centuries.

I feel like the story could still work even if the guy didn't get isekai'd to a 1:5 world. The author could just establish that the men at the girl's school and town don't match with the kind of guy she's looking for, and say that the male mc just moved in or transferred to the school. With this premise, this chapter's story would still happen the same way.

What new or unique thing does the 1:5 isekai do for the story then? As far as I can tell, it gives a reason for the girls to be greedy and the guys to be arrogant. But this can still happen in a normal earth-like world. So the 1:5 isekai world doesn't really give a compelling narrative hook because there's nothing definitively unique about it, in my opinion. Like, an isekai where every human had 6 fingers on their hands would be a unique premise, but if the whole story was just a high-school/college romcom then the whole story could have happened on normal 5-fingered earth and nothing would change.

At least for the 1:39 story, the author leans super into it by building up all these systems that revolves around the giant ratio disparity. They are extreme scenarios, but they come from an extreme premise.

There is no way monogamy would exist in a world where only 20% of the population is male. Especially since, unlike the 1:39 series, the gender roles are not reversed (men still seem to seek out attention from women, at least a little bit).

idk how people can draw comparisons between a lighthearted manga and one thats obviously meant to lean more towards a fetish and be suggestive, sure it may have a similar premise but the way its conveyed is totally different
and afaik most mangas that have similar premises do tend to lean on being suggestive and overly sexual which is why having a similar premise but delivered in a lighthearted way is imo quite interesting on its own
and from the comments ive seen it seems like people also take the premise way too seriously for what it's worth and treats it as if the whole manga is supposed to be a socioeconomic research regarding gender inequality 💀

Imagine it's 5 times more difficult to get a plumber or electrician or construction work done. Less people to work on oil fields or lumberjacks or delivering your washer and dryer to your house. Yeah maybe some women would have to fill the void.. but generally speaking, women usually avoid those types of vocations.
