They would probably try to be a bit pushy but if she said no for real they would probably give up. They probably think she was an introvert in middle school who decided to re-invert herself for high school and is kinda lacking in self confidence and with some pushes she will get more comfortable. They aren't exactly completely wrong in that in a technical sense.
