Though, tbh, the official english seems to have change a fair bit of dialogue, both in terms of tone and content. Like, Lint has a much more aggressive, sometimes confrontational tone, and as far as I can tell they've changed all content regarding installing him as the figurehead of the country with them helping the "government" rebuild (with no mention of who's in charge of that government). For example: The "you're finally the lord of a nation" on pg. 23 of this translation is instead "You're so independent" in the official one.

The way I've been handing my reread has been to read a chapter or two in the official version for a smooth, easy to get through reading experience, then switching over to the corresponding chapter here on MD to skim through and figure out the actual context for things (bc despite the fairly shitty MTL going on for most of the available chapters here on MD, it at least has a better grasp on the actual intent being conveyed, and doesn't have localization changes to the story).

Honestly, the whole experience has kind of opened my eyes to just how bad official english translations can actually be.

I will say that the end note explanations are, to me, always a good sign. I feel like those convey to the reader that, even if you can't perfectly convey the full meaning behind every joke in the translation itself, you still understand that context and have tried your best to preserve it. Taking the effort to explain those nuances more deeply sends the message that you're not just phoning in your efforts, and that you actually care about properly conveying the meaning of the text.
I've found that, more often than not, groups that put those kinds of end notes in also tend to be pretty good at providing good, understandable translations (obviously that's not the cause of the good quality, but I guess I'm just trying to say that it's a sign you're on the right track).

That aside, I feel like you can never go wrong by reaching out to and partnering up with other members of the community to work on stuff. Even just having a second set of eyes to look things over will help you catch mistakes, awkward phrasings, etc.
Plus, working with people who've done this before can help you pick up on helpful skills.
MangaDex has a discord server, so that might be a good place to reach out if you do want to find someone to work with.

Idk, but given that the official english had various meme-ish bits of dialogue (like Lint saying "Problem, bro?" to that one asshole noble that hates tamers), bits of incongruous dialogue where characters say something that doesn't really make sense contextually or doesn't flow into the next line of dialogue, and instances where the person speaking is swapped (and I mean visibly so, where you can see the dialogue pointing to a different person, or where you can see the mouth open on the person who's actually supposed to be speaking), I'm more inclined to believe the scanlated versions over the localization.
